I just bought a 2009 Prius. It drives like a beauty. But sometimes she I accelerate and brake, there is a strange grinding like noise. Seems like its coming from the inside of the car, maybe in dashboard. I'm not familiar with all the sounds the Prius makes, but this doesn't sound like any noise I've heard in a car. Thanks in advance.
For a second I was thinking about that farty coolant thermos pump (is that correct?) sound that occurs randomly. But that has nothing to do with accelerating and braking. Never did like that sound much. It's much quieter in 3rd gen.
Is the option to upload recordings to this chat to let member listen? youtube and copy&paste the link?
Absolutely normal. The Prius is extremely picky about its brakes. If there is a problem of any sort, the dash will light up with yellow warning lights.
If it sounds a bit like a refrigerator compressor at a higher pitch (and with a kind of "bubbly" sound), coming from the left of the steering wheel, that's normal. You can easily replicate this sound by pumping the brakes with the car off.
