This kind of mocking illogical post turns people off to the atheist message. Thanks, keep up the good work! :thumb:
As a former Catholic (nice detective work Spiderman), I am not a biblical scholar, just an agnostic. Is there information within the Dead Sea Scrolls that counterdict information contained in previously published bibles? New battle raging over missing Dead Sea Scrolls data | j. the Jewish news weekly of Northern California Are there other sources, (e.g. other scrolls) still waiting to be found such as the "Aleppo Codex?" More important than Dead Sea Scrolls? Quest on for holy text - USATODAY.com My whole point is there are so many sources with so many interpretations the "bible" is not a valid source as a document holding the "True Word" or whatever.
Not really sure what your point is here... In any case, Satan is the great deceiver and will put doubt in your mind. That is what he does best. Considering the source of those linked articles, they don''t rock my world.
Why do you suggest that this is a mocking illogical post? I very carefully selected this quote as one of the better ones. Perhaps you don't understand it. I realize that this is not a bible quotation, as the gospel of Thomas didn't make the final edit, but I still find his gospel to be one of the better ones. Unless you are a complete prick, you owe me an apology. Tom
For an atheist you sure spend a lot of time posting bits of history and going over the actions of a God you claim doesn't exist. What's up with that other than to mock? You don't convince people to the validity of your POV by mocking them, that's illogical. Once again I thank you for revealing what scurrilous angry people atheist are by posting a snap shot of an atheist's true character in your final sentence above. :thumb:
Don't be a jerk... I really don't know what he is trying to convey here. Could you possibly not be rude and interrupt a conversation?
So I make an honest effort to quote one of the better bits of gospel and I get blasted out of the water. The bible has a lot of outdated and silly stuff in it, but many good lessons to be learned from the better parts. Likewise, some of the best parts were left out altogether, such as the gospel of Thomas. The bible was written by humans, edited by humans, and translated by humans. They didn't always do the best job. That doesn't mean that it is all rubbish, nor does it mean that the gospel of Thomas is rubbish just because it didn't make the final cut. I've tried to play nicely, but the anger expressed by some on this thread is truly incredible. Your God would not be impressed. Tom
Barmy. Your ship is sound, and your tack is fair. 'Twas merely a warning shot, fired in anger, that fell far short of the mark.
I am confused. Do you think I am not believing in ignorance? I can assure you that my lack of belief and my knowledge of the bible are orthogonal, more knowledge does not produce more belief. (or less) If I WERE a believer, I would want nothing more than non believers reading the bible. Why would you discourage this?
Not to confrontational but how would you know? You can't have it both ways. You can't say that you don't believe in the God and then turn around and say that He would not be impressed. Like I told D, the Word smells like death to the unbeliever and so they hate it. 2 Corinthians 2:16
That was like he was a parent telling a child that Santa Claus would be un-impressed. The parent doesn't need to be believe in Santa Claus to say that.
Well that wouldn't be entirely as the parent is Santa Claus and he or she knows he or she wouldn't be impressed. But thanks for trying to clarify for Tom.
There's nothing honest about your efforts or misrepresentations Tom and so far the anger is coming from your side. Care to compare or is this another chicken out moment for you where you dance around the subject run from it or like so many of your ilk here have a "chicken little" moment and run off to the mods and cry?
