This is my 2nd Prius, a 2011 Blizzard White 3 model. My 1st was an 08 Driftwood Pearl. It might just be me, but are Prii warmer when parked in the sun then other makes and models? Is there less roof insulation causing the cars to be warm? Is it the glass? I've considered getting the windows tinted, but I don't know how much of a difference it would make. As a referance, we have an Acura MDX. When both vehicles are parked side by side, the interior roof of the Pruis is much warmer than that of the MDX. Do different numbered packages in the Pruis have better sound/heat/cold insulation in the roof? Anybody like to chime in on my post? Thanks
i think it has to do with the quality of the insulation and glass area. with the mdx inexpensive drive train and lack of mpg concern, they can afford a tighter ship with high quality insulation.
Aloha and Welcome. Tinting helps allot I tinted every window with the exeption of the lower hatch glass. The upper hatch and sides I tinted with a 40% ceramic tint, the windshield got Llumar Air Blue 80 tint. Then I also have a windshield sun shade that a got at my local dealer but is the same as the HeatShield sold in the PriusChat Shop. Try and use the search box in the upper right hand corner of the screen to fund more information on tinting.
Each state has different tinting laws, be sure what yours is. A quick search gave me this, but that is just the internet, not the law. California Window Tint Law | TintCenter Window Tinting I tinted all my side windows and upper back with 35% as my state law is 27% and there is some factory tint already.
Not sure about this. If it was really good, then it would not only keep hot out but keep hot in. So if parked in direct sunlight and the sun is heating the inside through the UV in the glass, not because of the indirect heat through the roof, if it is hot then the rest of the car is sealed better.
