What's the main difference between those two system? I heard that Camry has a true neutral gear, but Prius does not. If I get 50 mpg on Prius, how much I can get on Camry? Is the hybrid battery same reliable as Prius'? Looks to me, used Camry price is very close to none hybrid version now, maybe only $1000 difference. Used Prius still carries a high premium.
The price difference is probably due to the fact the Camry Hybrid's highway mileage is not that different from the regular Camry. We had a 2005 Camry with the 4 cyl and could get a consistant 38-40 mpg highway mpg. The 2012 Camry Hybrid has some major changes and it's gas mileage figure are vastly improved. This could be a contributing factor as well.
I have both cars. The hybrid systems are the same. The hycam uses the same mechanical style shifter as the regular camry, rather than the prius joystick. It does about 10 mpg less than the Prius.
If you can get 38-40 mpg highway with the route and driving habit, you hould be able to get 48-50 mpg if you drive a Camry Hybrid. The average highway for a 05 4 cylinder Camry is 30 mpg.
With the new TCH? not much since all the new additions to the Prius have been added to the redesigned TCH. The major difference is the engine size.
i get 65 in the prius, can't get the 08 hycam over 45. if you're getting 50 in the prius, i'm not sure what you'd get in the camry. but you might get 40, it tends to drive itself like the gen III pri, you can't pulse and glide very well.
You mean the gen 3 is not easy to P&G, comparing to gen 2? If so, why? If TCH has a true neutral gear (as I heard), I don't think you need to P&G, just put into N, and let it glide, without even spinning the engine. I used to "glide" on N in Prius, until I finally understand that the Neutral Gear in Prius is not really a physical gear.
If the OP is looking to compare the pre-2012 HyCam, here's what the 2nd gen Prius and pre-2012 HyCam got on CR's tests: http://web.archive.org/web/20081231...-advice/most-fuelefficient-cars-206/index.htm. Most fuel-efficient cars shows the same HyCam vs. the 3rd gen Prius. Since the 2012 HyCam isn't shipping yet, there are no results. One can also do a quick comparison of EPA test results at http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/sbs.htm.
