What brand / where to acquire oil filters? For my Volvo I buy a case of 12 for about $5/pop from a Euro car site, what is a good source for our 2010 Prius? Looking for quality too not the cheapie Fram stuff.

You can get OEM Toyota filters for about $3.60 - $4.00 on most sites... just google in Toyota parts.

trdsparks.com is a good place to get them from. Order a few other items too so the shipping will be worth it. Or check ebay.

I picked up 3 of them at the dealer for about $8 each when it was time to do my first oil change at 5k miles (before they changed the interval). I'm sure they're cheaper now.

Other options are WIX filters, which you can find at AMSOIL or other sites, too. I put the WIX in at this last oil change, so we'll see if it seems to make any difference when I get the oil analysis done.

The other options listed above are also good places.

I just get an oil filter, drain plug washer and 4 quarts of 0W-20 oil from my dealer when ready to change. Their price is competitive with the auto parts stores.

As previously stated there are a lot of Toyota parts available online. I ordered a case of 10 Toyota filters $45 and 10 drain plug washer $12 from Toyota of Dallas. Filter comes with a new O-ring for the filter cap.

    Some part numbers for filters:

    Toyota 04152-YZZA6
    NAPA 7064
    WIX 57064

    Toyota drain plug washer 90430-12031

O'Reilleys carries Wix. Carquest Blue and Napa filters are also made by Wix. You can also get Wix by the 12 ct. case online for around $5.50 each shipped. That said, Toyota OEM filters are better than average and it's hard to go wrong on both quality and price. Fram used to make good filters but now they are crap.

This is a pretty good deal on ebay, a 10 filter case with drain plug gaskets for $43:

Do the non Toyota filters come with the o-ring for the filter housing?

I know the Fram do, I suspect the others should as well or there would be a serious problem. ;)

Thanks guys I might just get them from Toyota. I know for my Volvo the blue boxed branded stuff is made by Mann which is 3x as expensive as if you buy it from Mann online. Looks like Toyota I guess has their own filters made to spec for their private brand? Anyone know if there is an OEM for them?

WIX does as well. I would imagine, though, that the O-Rings would last for 2 oil changes if someone was stuck having to re-use it.

Not sure, but the genuine filters are so cheap that it is unlikely for the supplier's aftermarket version to be cheaper.

The supplier to the OEM may sell the part under their brand but the part is not always the same.

What I do, everytime I need an oil change, fwiw:

Go to dealership, buy 4 liters of Toyota 0W20 motor oil, the drain plug washer and a single Toyota oil filter.

Just called my local dealer. They sell 3 oil filters for $13.xx. It's around 4.50 per filter vs. $5.40 normal price. That's about as cheap as they come. Volvo blue box is around $15 vs. $5 for the Mann, which is why I was asking. So Toyota OEM it is. The crush washers are around $1 so I will take one to Home Depot and get an aluminum or brass one of the correct size for around $0.20.

There is nothing special about aluminum crush washers. Find a generic one the right diameter and close to the right thickness and you are good to go at for below dealer prices. A good auto parts store will carry them
