New (to me) used Prius owner. I have seen other threads with the same title and while in those thread they say that its page 48 that the info is found on, in my manual its page 43.... but back to the point..... The directions seem "clear enough" but unfortunately not for me, because no matter how many beeps I hear or what setting "seems" to have been selected ALL doors ALWAYS open when I touch my drivers side door handle, when what I want is either of the other two options (either Driver's door unlocking mode or Single door unlocking mode). I have pushed the lock and panic buttons for 5 seconds at a time, hear the required beeps, but nothing changes. Have performed it both inside and outside of the vehicle and still nothing changes (I've seen some threads which state lock and unlock buttons (instead of panic button, which is contrary to what my manual states), tried that too, but didnt even get the beeps for that attempt). What exactly am I doing wrong? Is it possible it is permanently stuck that way or something? Thanks for any help. (My last car got stolen (2006 Honda Civic) and while it was done without me being present during the theft, it makes me want to be a little bit more cautious)
From the 2007 manual: "CHANGING THE DOORS TO BE UN- LOCKED Each time you push the lock button together with the panic button on the smart key for about 5 seconds with the hybrid system off, the setting for door unlocking will change as follows: 1. Driver’s door unlocking mode: If you perform smart unlocking operation on the driver’s door, it will unlock. Per- forming unlocking operation on the front passenger’s door or back door will unlock all the doors. When the system switches to this mode, one beep sounds inside the vehicle and two beeps sound three times. 2. All doors unlocking mode: Performing smart unlocking operation on either front door or back door will unlock all the doors. When the system switches to this mode, one beep sounds inside the vehicle and two beeps sound twice. 3. Single door unlocking mode: The driver’s door or back door on which you perform smart unlocking operation will unlock. However, performing un- locking operation on the front passen- ger’s door will unlock all the doors. When the system switches to this mode, one beep sounds inside the ve- hicle and two beeps sound once." If that doesn't work I don't know what you can try. Just be sure your FOB does work with the car in all ways it's supposed to (if it was replaced with the wrong kind not all functions will work). "With the hybrid system off" means the car is off.
Thanks, says basically the same in my 2008 manual and 1 or 3 is what I want but #2 is what is currently set. As far as I know, the FOB works in all other ways it is supposed to... but I'm not sure what other ways there would be (being so new to it all) other than opening doors and starting the car. But I am not sure if it were ever replaced before I got it... maybe I should try using the other FOB? Will try again with a fresh mind tomorrow morning. Oh, one more silly question... after the car is off... in "Step 2" in the manual it says "When the indicator on the key surface is turned off, push........(bla bla bla, the rest of the instructions). What exactly do they mean by "the indicator on the key surface"? The lil red light? If so, I don't know how to turn that off. Just for kicks just now, I tried one more time tonight and I noticed a peculiarity with the FOB that I think isn't the "usual" way they work... hitting the "unlock" button *once* also opens ALL doors, not just the Drivers door (it is my understanding that you should usually have to hit the unlock button twice for that to happen?) <shrug> Just a lil more info, I do not know if it'll help any though
once the car beeps or whatever it does to verify each stage.. it's stuck in that stage (if i remember correctly)... so.. find the setting.. and let it be. i've changed this setting a few times in the past.. currently i have it on " if one is touched, all open" because i usually have someone else in the car...
yes... it beeps the correct amount of times for the setting I want... I let it be, but it never changes from opening ALL doors though. I follow the directions (as best as I can tell anyway) to change the setting, but the setting is never actually changed to be anything different than it was when I got it. Once you place your hand on the drivers side door, all doors will still always unlock.
btw... i saw a bit above where you said " in step two... car off"... the car should be off for the entire process. i'd try it to verify on my car.. but i'm always afraid of touching the panic button with anything else... my 1st time i had the alarm go off because i clicked it wrong... that was when i was living in the suburbs.. no one cars... now i live in the city.. so.. yeah.. don't want to piss of my neighbors on accident.
btw.. i'll test this tomorrow for you if i remember to do so... i'll leave this post open to help remind myself.
I read the 2004 Owner's manual again and it seems that you can only control the SKS lock/unlock function. Changes to wireless remote function (pressing the lock/unlock button on the fob) is done by the dealer. So I am wondering if the wireless remote function was changed by the previous owner and somehow that is preventing you from switching the SKS functions. It's a long shot but it's one reason I can think of. Otherwise, what you describe was correct. Press and hold the LOCK and PANIC button simultaneously for 5 seconds, wait for the beeps and repeat to cycle through the settings.
I think I said that funny or something. The car is of course off through the whole process... what I meant was the light on the key fob itself, not the car... when they say "the indicator on the key surface is turned off" (or does that just mean be a lil bit further away from the car or something?). <shrug> Oh well. I might just have to be a lil more paranoid as I get into my car is all, and be constantly looking around (which I guess I should be anyway).
I'm leaning more and more to this being the problem... I checked page 488 of my manual (Customizable features) and it lists some features that can only be changed by the dealer and there is a hand written "check-mark" (assuming from previous owner) next to the Customized Setting labeled "All door unlocked in 1-step" (which mean hitting the unlock button on the key FOB once). So I guess they figure if you want all door unlocked when you hit the unlock button, it MUST mean that you want all doors to unlock when you grasp the door handle, and therefor you don't have the option of changing it anymore (at least until you take it back to the dealer to change back) Thanks for everyone's help though.
