First time taking one of my vehicles to the dealers in a long time just wondering if I over paid? Had engine oil and trans oil changed. Had a tire rotation and alignment also. Grand total was 291.65. The oil was full synthetic not Mobil 1 but the Toyota brand. Any advice or comments would be helpful for next time. Thanks mileage on my 2010 is 90899

That sounds a little steep. Trans fluid change runs $100 +/-. A synthetic oil change is about $50. Tire rotation is usually free where you buy tires. If you pay for rotation, prices between $10 and $30 are typical. Were you offered a 30K/60K/90K service "bundle"? There are lots of inspection items that are thrown in to justify a $149.95 or $199.95 cost.

Next time, at 100K, you are looking at engine and inverter coolant changes. The coolant cost alone is about $70. Try to get quotes on this service at a few places, whether it be dealers or independent shops (yes, there are independent shops that work on Prii). It is the sort of thing that might vary by $100-$200.

I've paid more like $70 for a four-wheel alignment. A good one involves a non-trivial amount of work. Post what you paid for each service from your invoice

Ah ha, I missed that there was an alignment. The dealer here sends out a coupon for oil change, rotation, and alignment at $99.95, with extra an charge for synthetic oil. I think the regular price for that bundle is $149.95.

We've had great experiences with Discount Tire in San Diego (also American Tire in some areas). After the first balance/rotate it's free every 5000 miles and we've gotten 3 replacement tires from road hazards ove the years. The package costs the same as 1 session at the dealer. They match Costco pricing with more selection and faster.

    That seems reasonable.

Usually a synthetic oil change and tire rotation (minor service) is about $90.

An alignment at a dealer is typically $100.

Transmission drain and refill is about $100.

So, I think the price you paid is fairly average, if not slightly below average for this area.

Stories like this a great. He has close to 100,000 miles on his 2010 with zero repairs.
Another example on why you should not buy an extended warranty.

I had my trans fluid changed at around 40,000 and will have it done again at 80,000. I am at 72,000 now. I will not get an alignment until I have bad tire wear or it pulls to one side.

I think a fair price for what he had done is $150.00

Before you schedule a service ask what the price is for each item, if it seems to high go to another dealer and ask. They don't all charge the same and sometimes the price is negotiable.

It is impossible for a shop to be sustainable if they only charged $150 total for all of those services.

Heck, the shop foreman I know from a major Infiniti dealer in my area charges $190 for a minor service with synthetic!
