I love my 2011 Prius, but one small problem I've noticed is that the back window gets dirty just about every day. I think it's the way it is configured with the split back window. It is the lower half of the window, under the split, which seems to attract dirt. I was cleaning it with windex but my brother (who also has a Prius) said that I'm only supposed to use water on it, according to the owners manual. Not so easy to get it clean with just water.
The dirt comes from the Kammback design, which creates a zone of rolling turbulence behind the car. It's one of the prices you pay for good aerodynamics. Tom
That is interesting. Now that you mention it I think the entire back window of my Prius gets dirty faster than the back windows on my prior cars. The bottom portion gets especially dirty. Now at least I can think, while doing my daily window cleaning, this is a small price to pay for the good mileage.
Yes, the entire rear side of my Blizzard White 2011 gets filthy while the rest of the vehicle holds up (for a while, anyway). I have been noticing this for a while now. And it isn't a small difference either. It gets really dirty compared to the front and sides. The next area to go is behind the rear wheelwells.
That was the very first complaint I had about the car. It gets worse in the rain, the lower glass is like frosted glass. Backing up in the rain at night is like a guessing game (no rear camera here). I tried RainX which helped a bit but not much.
OK thanks for that info. I'll use windex again, for my frequent cleanings of the outer glass on the Prius' back window.
