This is a great looking App with features I think I've seen with Ford and the Chevrolet Volt. I can't wait until ToyotaUSA can get this here for us.
Actually, you are getting a similar app with your PiP! If you order the advance package PiP, you will have this app available for you to use.
In the US, it is only available with the Advance Tech package. It requires Safety Connect in order to link and remote operate your car from your smart phone.
It looks nice, but I'm not too impressed. A smartphone app that does four things (find car, state of charge, turn on AC, and a fourth thing I forgot), for "only" $7,000 extra, plus a monthly data fee? Toyota, thank your lucky stars you're a car company and not a software company. And no, I'm not saying that just because I ordered the non-Advanced package. The spec says the standard plug-in has remote air conditioning. Is that via smartphone + monthly service fee, or another way?
The Japanese-language version is available in the Android Market on-line, however, the English version doesn't show up when I search for it on my phone. Hopefully Toyota posts it to the Android Market soon after the cars are received.
I think i remember it being said that the standard model would use the FOB to turn it on from around 30 feet, where the advanced was using the app from anywhere you had cell service.

I shopped carefully, and I remain surprised at how little Toyota gives you for $7,000 extra: LED headlights Fog lights Radar Cruise Control Better (but not leather) seat covers Power driver's seat ( but not passenger) Auto-dimming rear-view mirror Slightly better stereo/ nav unit Heads-up display Those are all nice things, I'd love to have them, but they don't add up to $7,000.
The differences have a different value to different people. I myself think that all of these things, plus like the better HDD nav system with split screen for the backup camera, more speakers, etc... are worth it in my mind. Especially for a piece of equipment i'll be using for 5-10 years.
There'll be an "A/C" button on the fob, similar to the one found on the regular Prius with the SR package.
You get more than just that. I agree, I thought and still kinda do that $7500 more is alot for what you get but basically electronics aren't cheap especially newer technology electronics. As for additional stuff, you also get the JBL GreenEdge stereo with the better nav screen. That includes 3 years of XM data services for weather, stocks and more. You listed slightly better stereo / nav unit but it's a significant upgrade, not just slightly better. Also, you get a 3 year subscription to Safety Connect. You also get the Apps available thru Entune like vehicle locator, battery charging and battery level indicator, the remote a/c you know about and perhaps more.
I stand corrected: it's $8,000 more for the Advanced package. Yes, I love all that cool stuff, but I feel the price is too high. Wish I had it, tho'
$7525 to be exact since I said $7k and you said $8k... Still alot and I expressed that when I heard the price in SF last September. I was expecting around $37,500 maybe $38,000, but OVER $39,000 was a shock. It was a HARD decision to go for the advanced but having had LED headlights already on my 10' for example just kept me from going to halogens this time around.
After looking through the updated Entune site that Erica mentioned today, it looks like all of the added PiP functionality is included in the current Entune app. It doesn't look like we need to download a separate eConnect app. T-Mobile G2 ?

I wonder if the "poor" owners (me included) of the PiP basic package will have access to any or some of those looking apps or information by means of OBDII or wireless connection. Something to wander around once I have " IT" park in my driveway....
My understanding is the apps work using the cell service of the safety connect system so since the base model doesn't have it they will not work mrbigh.
But you must realize that the "information" is in the car, it must be a way to interpret and display all of it.
I got what ya' mean but if I can't just easily access it from my phone anywhere I am it's not the same. I hope you guys can at least get some of it locally though.
