I hit a high manhole cover, punctured the oil pan, crunched the lower motor mount link, and misaligned the pawl motor... Where is the motor located?
On the back of the transmission facing the fire wall, but I think you have serious problems. Have you any more details of problem.
Yes. At first, the dealership said that the transaxle was bent and that it would cost over 7k to fix. Then, after paying 300. For them to look further, they said that it was not damaged, but the upper and lower oil pans needed to be replaced (I only found one), the linkage needed replacing, as does the the parking pawl motor...3k+.... I have a Katrina Prius that I bought for replacement parts, so I can get the oilpan, the motor mount (linkage?), and I jaws going to try to buy a pawl motor from the dealer and put it in myself....that's my story..
Ugh...the upper pan is what I would call the lower crankcase. I would have to look at the dead motor I have in the shop tomorrow, but I do not know if it is possible to R&R the upper pan without removing the motor and separating the transaxle. For sure you need to remove the subframe. I can't understand how that is intact and straight when all these other things aren't. This is a big, big job. Have you talked to your insurance company?
There are downloadable technical manuals at: http://www.selidori.com/tech/prius/DOC/ The 2004 manual covers 2004-2005 Prii The 2006 manual covers 2006-2009 Prii The 2010 Manual was just the owners manual when I last looked at it. JeffD
I took a look and thought about this a little today. I think it would be difficult if not impossible to replace the upper pan without pulling the motor out of the car. You are possibly better off to get a used motor from a recent wreck, if not a used motor + trans.
