New bicycle to minimize short trips

Awesome!! I think a lot of us could lose a few. I'm down almost 10 this year, partially jump started by a bout of the flu

I want to start riding again, but would need to get a bike rack to carry it.

Anyone have a bike rack already that they can recommend? Any bike recommendations too? Lol, I haven't owned a bike in like 10 years.

 

This is my ultimate "comfort bike". And it's a carbon fiber road bike!

 

Bike rack? I put my tandem bicycle, with wheels off and floor covered, in my new Prius and did a 3300 mile trip with my wife. I would guess that a single bike would fit with the front wheel off. Always put the derailleur up when the bike is laid down. Saved $8 every 100 miles over my Sienna van that I usually drive.

What kind of bike? A good bike shop that helps with selecting the style of bike, fit and adjustments and color are more important than brand.

 

I Ride a Fixed Gear Bianchi. Im thinking about getting a hitch for a bike rack anyone got good suggestion for bike racks

 

I would suggest getting roof rack, like yakima... Im planning to get one before summer...

I'm looking for 2 cheap used bikes for my girlfriend and I. It's good exercise now that I'm off the juice. lol

Mrs. Felt is a neighbor to one of my preserves. I would ask her about bikes but I cannot afford those machines!

 

I was debating between hitch and roof, I always wondered if the roof rack would damage the solar roof? and can the roof sustain the weight with no long term damage

Roof racks are fine, but good god man, make sure you remove the bike BEFORE driving into your garage. :doh:

I'm getting a hitch rack this time, after several roof racks.

 

Never had a Hitch or Roof Rack, always had a trunk hatch. Dont want to damage my trunk with all that weight

I have a Yakima 4-bike rack on a hitch on my Prius. It works very well and is very handy.

this is a really nice bike, but whoo weee, $4400 is a bit steep for me. How hard is it to get used to compared to a "normal" bike?

 

Took me about 15 minutes cruising down the block.
The hard part is starting from a stop.You don't have the advantage of standing on the pedals, using your body weight to get momentum.
But once you're moving, it's easy as pie and being able to just chill and watch the scenery go by is great. No back aches, neck aches, butt aches, just a fun ride.
Mine is carbon fiber which keeps the weight down to a respectable 21lbs and price isn't far off from any other full carbon fiber road racing bike. So you can get aluminum framed ones for much cheaper. This one is a "high racer" with pedals up above your butt. There are mid-racers, low-racers, long wheelbase... all easier for a newbie. And then there are trikes! Lots of stuff to choose from.

This is my other ride I used as a commuter bike when I lived only 12 miles from the office. This is the latest pic i have but it now has moustache bars and barend shifters, as well as a chain ring protector to keep your pants leg off the chain. Rivendells are the kind of bikes you keep forever. And their philosophy is all about practical riding, not weekend Lance wannabees.
