My 1998 Leuxs' aluminum wheel no longer shine. I see black and yellow spots. It seems that you can not clean they with regular detergent. Is it possible to polish them and make it look like new?
They sold this stuff called flitz at part stores like autozone etc that worked real well at getting oxidization off of metal or plastic. Follow that up with some mothers wheel polish and they should come out good. You can get one of those power ball buffers for your drill to use, they work pretty well.
Before you go tearing into your wheels with polishing compound intended for metal, be aware that your wheels have a layer of clear coat on them, essentially clear paint. First thing to try is to clean them like you were cleaning paint with spots stuck on it.

Yeah we hit the alcoa wheels on the ambulances and fire apparatus with that stuff, they come out looking like mirrors.
