Folks, Although I charge at home with a hard-mounted Level 2 Leviton charger, I have tried to charge via the car-supplied Level EVSE during a recent trip to the Midwest, and more & more as opportunity charging while running errands on the weekend. Problem: the Level 1 EVSE is a minor pain to get in & out of the cargo floor slot, enough so that i just leave it now loose on the cargo floor in the back. However, the loose EVSE cord likes to wrap itself like a snake around things, and self-tangle too. Solution: the CORD PRO cable donut. URL: Cordpro.com - Reels that make sense. Cord Pro sells three sizes. The car EVSE fits the middle product, the CP100. I've used this size for years for my home heavy duty extension cord and can attest these cord donuts are built tough and easy to handle. My car EVSE now happily lives in the Cord Pro 100 in the cargo bay, coiled rather than tangled. I put a large Zip tie through the brass grommet to have a handy grab handle / hang handle. Cord Pro 100 price: $18.00 plus shipping. The largest size, CPXL, now serves me as the cord management system for my Leviton Level 2 charging cord. This CPXL donut completely solved the problems inherent in coiling the heavy L2 cord around the badly designed Leviton cord hanger. This model has the nice built-in handle that can hang off the lousy Leviton L2 metal hanger. Cord Pro XL price: $35.00 plus shipping. The smallest Cord Pro donut is way too small for anything other than a laptop computer cord. Hope this info is useful.
You might being wrapping your cable wrong. See My Nissan Leaf Forum • View topic - How to wrap your EVSE/other cables! (You're doing it wrong!). Ingineer is aka pEEF here. As he noted, the video is not his.
DadofHedgehog, Is it really that hard to open the carge floor slot and drop the cable in? I even keep an old towel in the slot, so that on rainy days I can wipe the cord as I coil it up. Now, if you found a cable coiler, like my canister vacuum cleaner, that allows you to open the Charge Door and pull out a 120 v cable 50 feet, that then re-coils when your done, I'd buy that !!!
WOW, I like this over/under wrap method! For longer cords I do an "Electricians figure-8" between my hand and elbow, but for short cords, like the EVSE, I was just looping it. Tomorrow I start the over/under wrap method!
Ukr2, It is indeed hard to get the EVSE cord in and out of the EVSE under-mat cargo slot if you keep varied stuff in your cargo area. That's my experience. Additionally, the cargo net, very useful for keeping grocery bags from turning over and dumping their contents, is in the way of the EVSE cargo slot panel.
Yep ... the proper wrapping method flys in the face of the pricy gizmo's. In fact this video actually makes fun of the wrapping devices, that often stress the cord(s) How to Wind and Store Your Cables Video – 5min.com .
Humm... I thought everyone used over/under. After time it will eventually "condition" the cord and it almost coils itself.
Sorry, I forgot about those that use the Cargo Mat and Net. I avoided both with my PIP. Therefore, nothing is blocking my EVSE storage door.
