Is there any way to tell your 1st Gen color code from the VIN # ?

Hello all, glad to be a member of this very fine looking forum. I was checking out the original 1st Gen Prius brochures and it's quite clear that there were 2 very similiar looking "silver" 1st Gen's and I'm wonder how to determine the difference between "Blue Moon Pearl" & "Silver Strata Metallic".

I backed my car into a mailbox earlier this spring and the scratch is starting to oxidize a bit and I really need to be able to determine which of the two silver colors my 1st Gen Prius really is. So I'm wondering if this can be determined from the VIN # or not.

    Thanks in advance!

    Tim

Exterior paint color is not represented by one of the VIN digits, so you can't just go to a web VIN decoder to find the paint info--but if you call a dealer's parts department, they should be able to input your VIN in their system and look it up.

The code is on the driver door post. Their will be lots of info but you will see, "C/TR: 3 digit code/4 digit code" The 3 digit code is your color code(=C), the 4 digit code in your Trim code(=TR). You should never need your trim code, if the trim code starts with F, you should have Fabric interior, if it starts with L you have Faactory leather. If it starts with F but you have leather then the car left the factory with cloth and it was replaced with leather.
