A purchased a new 12 volt battery at the dealer. I was getting weird warning lights, so I had them run diagnostics. They said all the codes were voltage and I needed a new battery. Shortly after this I noticed the Smart Key no longer opened and closed the doors. The car starts ok. My question is this, could the changing of the battery have caused this? I tried searching for the answer BUT all answers refereed to adding a new smart key purchased on Ebay.
The most likely cause you be that they pressed the "key" button below the steering column. You may want to press the "key" button once then start the car, turn the car off, remove the key from the slot and see if it works.
Thanks So Much for the reply. I tried that, no luck. When I pressed the button It did stop the car from starting with out the SKS inserted. I pressed the button again and it starts without the SKS inserted It's just that nothing happens when I hit lock or unlock. I was thinking new battery for SKS, But this started with the change of the 12 volt battery.
I just noticed that the small red light doesn't blink when I press the keys. On our 2010 the light blinks when you press the lock or unlock buttons.
Just got back from Toyota, They put in new battery in the SKS. Everything working Just Fine! Charge $4.00 Including Sales Tax or 8 3/4 %. Thanks for the help guys
^^^ Those batteries (CR2032) can be had for ~$1.79 at Fry's Electronics around here. There's one place online that sells that for MUCH cheaper than that, but one has to order a bunch to make it worthwhile, due to shipping costs.
I am sure when you add the S&H it will come to 4.00. Also, the labor charge What's the rate at the dealer for 5 minutes labor. LOL
FWIW, 'Dollar stores' often sell LED votive candles @2-3/$1 and they're powered by....2032 or similar batteries.
