Just kidding. Isn't it interesting, I have not seen one maintenance problem with the PIP on Priuschat. Or have I missed something? Sure it is brand new, but the other generations had multiple problems when new. Are we just lucky?
now that you mention it, there is a bit of vibration in my go pedal when gassing it up a hill. didn't have that in my 08.
That is normal hesitation caused by feather footed PIP drivers. The question is " To step on the gas or not to step on the gas"
Most all Prius don't have much for repair problems in the first few years... And if they do it's a warranty repair issue rather than a DIY repair issue, so there's way less reason for posting about that.
If you were to browse thru Gen I, II, IIIPriuschat forums you would see a multiplicity of problems, some repeating over and over, such as 12V Battery, inverter, coolant pump etc. Now PC is only a microcosm of the total Prius market, but definitely demonstrative of the total market. Just because Toyota took care of many issues, without charge does not make it any less of a problem. BUT, this was not the point of my thread. I am amazed that thus far, no mechanical, electronic problems have cropped up.
Coincidentally, Truth About Cars published their PiP review today: Review: 2012 Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid | The Truth About Cars They framed the review in the context of an increase in beta-testing, as in Toyota spent much more time gathering user data on this design than on all the previous designs. Could that explain why there are less problems? Or is it simply that there are not very many people that have taken delivery of their PiP yet? Makes me wonder about all the reasons auto makers limit the production/supply of their best cars. Like VW's TDI, why do those cars have to be so chronically rare in the US? Why not dump as many on the market as possible? Same with the PiP... Why is demand constantly way stronger than supply when it comes to the very best MPG cars?
I haven't read of any HV Battery replacements in ANY of the Prius. Some were driven over 300,000 and still the original battery. Who has changed their HV Battery?
there are plenty of pips in the u.s., probably more than many dealers would like. could be a geographic problem tho.
i haven't searched, but i've read about many over the years. that's why there are places like reinvolt and autobeyours etc. i'm not saying it's a major problem, and most are over 100,000 miles.
A lot of the PIP isn't brand new. As the fleet ages it will have its share of inverter and battery problems. It does seem to have one unique complaint. Owners who have used it don't like Toyota's implementation of Fix-a-flat.
Seriously? Fix-a-flat? They couldn't put the little donut wheel under the rear end? That's gonna screw over alot of people who get any tire damage that's worse than a puncture. WOW! I'm surprised Toyota's Lawyers let them do that?
Seems like somebody could make money selling a full size wheel cover and mounting kit for PIP... It'd take up a lot of space, but having a full size spare make flat tires so much easier to deal with!
