We purchased our 3rd Gen Prius V in October 1 2009, 72000 mi, NO troubles whatsoever.

I understand most of the primary parts suppliers for Toyota in Japan were knocked out of production after the tsunami (March 11, 2011), but that they were back on line as of 2-3 months ago. During that time period, Toyota depended on secondary suppliers in China, Thailand, etc. whose QA was questionable. I'm curious if those Prii(?) assembled during that down-time have experienced more birth defects and troubles in general than those assembled before that date, or more than 1-year after.

That might explain what I perceive as a sudden increase in Prius complaints...

Don't know about QA but is anyone afraid Japanese sourced goods being radioactive?

being on this forum since 05, and having owned an 04, 08 and now a 12, i haven't noticed any increase in defects. personally, i feel my 08 was better than my 04 and the 2012 is even better.
and my wife has had camry's since 01 and we feel the same way about them.

I am going to speculate that the uptick in complaints, if there is one, is more a function of the mainstreaming of the Prius. With multiple manufactures now introducing electric and hybrid vehicles, and gasoline approaching $4 again, the hybrid has been validated as a choice for a much larger consumer base, perhaps with less patience than the earlier adopters.

We can trust Toyota of it's quality and QA. I have confidence.
My 1993 Corolla(bought new),1998 Camry(bought new) and this 2005 Prius(pre own), all good without any issue.
Just buy tires, change oil( all done by myself), 12V battery, one or two light bulbs. That's it for the passed 18+ years.
