Just had this replaced in our 2008 Prius for $520. Anybody think there's a chance of getting it covered under the warranty? Dealer said no. Is this a common problem? I'm beginning to hate my Prius...we also have a 2003, which has had no major problems at all. Longing for the simple days!
I'm pretty sure you're not the first case to report failures outside of the range covered by LSC A0N - HV (Inverter) Water Pump; Dealer Letter and Technical Instructions | PriusChat. It seems like the new pump isn't any better. I'd call Toyota at Toyota Help and lodge a complaint.
If complaining doesn't help you will likely be reimbursed when/if the service campaign is updated to include your car. Make sure to save the receipt. You may also want to stop patronizing the dealer as I'm sure you could have saved hundreds by having an independent shop repair it. For example: (make sure to read the comments)
$520 sounds pretty steep for an inverter coolant pump. Surely there couldn't be more than about 1/2 an hour labor on that job? Did they give you any breakdown of that price, parts and labor etc?
We were 2 hours from home when all the warning lights went on, so had to get towed to the nearest dealer. Kind of a captive audience. Hope you're right about an updated service campaign, though.
I hadn't watched avi's video before posting before. Anyway, 1 hr labor (max) sounds about right. I'm pretty sure that someone posted the list cost for this pump was about $120 (from memory), so you'd think $220 to $250 would be more like a fair price for that job.
That doesn't sound right at all. My 2007 had the inverter coolant pump replaced at over 60,000 miles because of the TSB. And, that was after they replaced the first one that failed at 34,000 miles under warranty. Was there a time limit on the campaign?
