What color should be showing if the paint is chipped?

While cleaning my Blizzard Pearl PiP, I noticed black spots on the front of my hood. Closer inspection reveals it is either some sort of tar residue, or paint damage. However, usually paint chips reveal a silver color, not black, but I don't feel anything sticking out. I have tried using my nail to gently remove it, but no luck.

Car is only 2 weeks old, so I am bummed that I have these major spots already. Can anyone confirm what color would show when paint is damaged? Thanks!

Do you know how to claybar? Its really easy. Sell a Mcguirs kit at Walmart for $20. Best way to prep& clean. Don't use your nail.

Claybar and 2 coats of wax. The hood on a Prius takes a beating.

Yep, I do have access to all the great detailing tools, including a claybar, but didn't think of trying this since it felt like actual damage (no raised texture). Definitely a good idea.

Due to the lack of time, I quickly coated the car with Ultimate Paint Guard Plus after cleaning it, hoping to do the full workup in a month or so, weather permitting. Just need to figure out if it is paint damage, as I will try to get the Blizzard Pearl paint and cover it (assuming Toyota sells it) if this is the case.

Also have a BP Prius- the front and rear plastics are solid black, so anything that chips the paint right down to the plastic will reveal black underneath. Now the hood is metal (aluminum IIRC) so a chip there will reveal silver.

FWIW- to successfully repair the BP finish you nee two touch-up tubes from Toyota, Super White goes on first, then Blizzard Pearl gets applied over that. The tubes are $10 each from your local Toyota dealership.

Now that I think about it, it's on the plastic about an inch away from the hood opening, so I guess that would be plastic. Thanks for the tips, will get the paint from Toyota ASAP.

PS: Congrats on your purchase, excellent choice !

BTW, picked up the paint tube today. It's actually a single tube, Blizzard Pearl, which has the base, pearl & clear coat all in 1. The bottle info mentioned a layer of clear coat should be applied after 24 hours, but the guy behind the counter argued it's a generic message, and only a few colors really need this, so I walked out with just that tube for now.

Will do more research, but hopefully that's all I need for now.

Sounds like you have a good feel of detail products (ref: UPGP).
I'm curious about the preocedure with the tube system.
I'm imagining cutting back some plastic 'frays', or is it merely a chip?
I remember a Camaro from the 80's that I had and the plastics repair system was a nightmare.
    I have some 'frays'.
Please advise and good luck to you!

Here's a close up (was in a hurry, so it isn't a great shot), which does seem to confirm it's actual damage.

I tried the pen on my other Toyota (silver), and while it's better than having rust/black spots, I wasn't too impressed. That said, I had to use the brush part, the pen part wasn't working for me.

Well with the $3500 TFC, $2500 Fed Tax Credit and our electric utility $500 rebate- I ended up paying the same as if I had purchased the PIP in the first place back in march rather than the Five. I was extremely fortunate in this case that all the credits/rebates on the PIP added up to $6500. FWIW- I wouldn't have traded the Five if the huge incentives hadn't existed.

Oh- the PIP is BP too, so I still a member of the Blizzard Brigade!

So can anyone confirm if a separate clear coat layer is required? Find it hard to believe that the label is wrong.
