It was about 25% city and 75% highway. I planned to use EV miles for city portion and HV on the highway.

Coming back home, I still had 8 EV miles left on the highway returning home but ran into a construction jam (belt pwky) and used up 4 EV miles. Later on the highway, I used the remaining 4 EV miles as I was approaching home. Made it home with 0 miles left. I pulled into driveway in HV mode limited EV power.

Shutdown the car and it said 90 MPG! I wasn't expecting that much of a boost.

I had 158 miles on gas before the plug was ready in the garage. Car was showing 1% EV and 99% HV. It included 2 miles short trips (got 38 MPG). After plugging in, I have been making all short trips on EV miles. EV ratio is on the rise! Loving it!

It rides better than my previous 06 gen2. It soaks up imperfections on the road. It came with ecopia tires. The car feel heavier but also more solid and comfident. More to come.

    let's do the math: 45 miles@90mpg= 1/2 gallon of gas. 45-15miles ev=30 miles or 60mpg. 15 miles on 3kw = 50 cents. (my cost) at $4./gallon, .50 = 1/8 gallon. 45 miles on 5/8 gallon = 70mpge. am i doing something wrong?

I got 71 MPG on a 30-mile trip with no charge! This car rocks!

    50 mins
    36 MPH
    71 MPG

Granted, I set the cruise control to 48 MPH on flat highway to accomplish this, but... wow!

In gen2, I do about 10% better than than EPA as I got 50 MPG on 46 rated.

    With PiP, I am getting insanely higher efficiency. 43.1 miles / 90 mpg = 0.479 gallons. A full 3.1 kWh charge is 0.092 gallon. A total of 0.571 gallon. 43.1 miles / 0.571 gal = 75.5 MPGe.

If I got 11 miles from the battery, I must've gotten 67 MPG from the gas engine.

If I got 50 MPG from the gas engine, I must've gotten 19.2 EV miles.

It is probably in the middle with 60 MPG fom gas and 14.4 EV miles.

  5. For the past 6 months I have been averaging 80-83 mpg in varied driving. That is close to two times what is calculated on FUELY for the 2005 Prius.

    92 MPG.jpg

Did a trip to Brooklyn in the post-Sandy traffic. Surprising, the traffic was smoother than normal.

I got 92 MPG with one charge on this 39.2 miles trip. 17 miles on EV and 22.2 miles on HV. The reason I know the breakdown is because I checked the EV Ratio screen before I left.

    Gas engine efficiency

39.2 miles divided by 92 MPG = 0.426 gallons consumed. 22.2 HV miles divided by 0.426 gallons = 52.1 MPG.

    Battery efficiency

3.1 kWh (full charge with charging loss) divided by 17 miles = 182 Wh per mile. That's 18.2 kWh/100mi.

    Overall efficiency

    0.426 gallons + 0.092 gallon equiv = 0.518 gallons. 39.2 miles divided by 0.518 gallon equiv = 75.7 MPGe.

182 wh/mile is pretty impressive! The 85kwh Model S would have a range of 467 miles with that kind of efficiency!

    seawolf,

have you mapped your route at jurassictest.ch/GR/ and benchmarked your EV miles?

It doesn't have Prius PHV to choose from.
