I think you'll see even better numbers in Nov/Dec due to the tax incentive. Unfortunately, I also see that having a chilling effect on sales at the beginning of next year. Incentives should not be based on taxes but rather applied evenly to every buyer at the time of sale but that's the way it is.
It could also spur a bunch of new sales, for second PHEVs, when people have another year's worth of tax liability to chip away at.
I would expect mid 20K volume this year as I did at the beginning of the year. I agree they are likely to drop for Jan/Feb/March, but should handily beat 2012 for the same months, as there are no congressional hearings next year. The leases should continue to be popular, and these roll the tax credits across all months. Buyers can also change their deductions, but many do not do that. October sales may have been lower than they would have been if the plant had not been idled, which really bodes well for 4.5K-7K sales in November and December. The c-max, prius phv, and tesla S should add more competition next year, but I hope this increases plug-in market share and doesn't just shift sales between brands. The big question for volt sales in the 2013 calendar year, if the 2014 my gets a voltec 1.5 redesign of the hybrid system.
2,961 for Oct, 2012, that is really great! The Prius for the same month only sold 16,774. Oh well. DBCassidy
Apples to apples my friend. Compare the 3 year sales of the Prius and you will see the volt is right where it was back in 2002 20k..
The plug-in Prius is only available in less than 1/3 of the states. We see the potential for next year. The better thing is asking what to expect for Volt next year.
