I have no heat or defrost. Dealer suggests heater box needs replaced. Because entire dash needs to be removed, the replacement estimate comes in over $3700. I think this is insane for a heater. Has anyone else experienced similar problems and/or have suggestions for re-gaining heat?

Toyota Corporate also suggested to get another opinion, however this was from the dealer. Wouldn't they know how to fix the car? Who should I get second opinion from, Honda? or are they acknowledging their dealer either doesn't know what they are doing or they are inflating the estimate? Anyway, I am in the Atlanta area.

Looks like the dealer is taking the shotgun approach, replace it all. Go to another dealer. Ask the dealer why it is not working and what parts are keeping it from working. You have to be proactive. You dont give enough information. What were they going to replace with the $3700? There arent $3700 worth of broken parts and labor in the heating system.

no, the dealer can make mistakes, just like a doctor. get a second opinion from another dealer and also from a radiator repair shop. how many miles? warranty is 36,000 i believe.

There are some bad dealers. Try another Toyota dealer, preferably one w/no affiliation (e.g. ownership) w/the one you went to.

BTW, it'd help to update your location info so we don't need to ask again in other threads/posts.

My guess is that it's either an actuator or a control module. Does the fan work?
