I was looking at my downloaded stats at myvolt.com and this is what I did over the past 7 days: Total miles: 361 EV miles: 288 Gas miles: 73 Gas: 1.80gal Elect: 86kwh MPG: 40.5 (regular grade 0% ethanol) EV: 115.2 (86kwh/33.7=2.56 "gallons" so 288ev miles/2.56) Total MPG: 200.5 MPGe: Avg daily miles: 51.5 Avg daily on EV: 41.1 EV ratio: 79.7% (a 240volt charger @ home would easily bump this into the 90's) Temps have been all over the map from a high of 91f to a low 53f.
I did 290 Total miles, 100% EV, 82kWh (including a few remote starts to warm up) Oh, I also rode my mtn bike 70 miles. If that counts we are even at ~ 360 miles, 80% EV.
We have almost the exact same EV miles but I have 4 more kwh's. I wonder if the diff is due to the 240v (public) charging you can do (or do you have it at home too?) or my "hot rodding" in sport mode on the weekends which I like to do.
probably the "hot rodding" for this past week. I was consiously timid on the pedal this past week because I had a couple days I thought I was at risk of exceeding the EV range before plugging in. Twice last week I arrived at a charge spot with less than 500Wh remaining. I have a lot of hills (800 ft) to navigate so guestimating the EV range is it's own challenge.
ok in metric that around 175 watts per km. in the leaf tetsdrive i did around 130-160watts per km and in my prius diy plugin a get around 125 watts per km.... i geuss the planitair gearset and so on is really good for just EVing to.
What kind of elevation changes were you doing in the leaf and diy prius plugin? heat, A/C, cargo ? I just calculated my morning run. 3.3kW for 21 miles works out to 100watt per km. !!!
On the day is was 91F (yes in November), I sat in my volt with the a/c set to 75f in comfort mode and listened to the radio for 35minutes while waiting for my sons soccer game to start. Did your tests include anything like that? Did you drive in sport mode in either vehicle? I consider myself an efficient driver compared to most but I have my limits!
On your diy plug-in you likely drove in EV at lower speeds than fotomoto does in his volt At lower speeds the hsd doesn't get in the way of EV driving. Anyway you cut it 175 wh/km is great and 125 wh/km is even better. The lower weight of your conversion should help a little, but most has to be driving pattern.
I do eco mode as well, with my bicycle. I think I do more miles on my cycle than PiP drivers get on EV I use about 1 pint of beer for every 12 miles of cycling. What is the proper conversion factor for a pint of beer to Wh ?
Supremely efficient. Approx. 0.24 Wh for 12 miles. Or 0.02 Wh/mile. Given that, I am not sure why you use something as horribly inefficient as Volt. Cycling FTW.
