Great job on the purchase price! Not so much on the extended warranty though. I charged it during the day the first few days I got it while I was home awake because I didn't want to go through the nightmare of being burned alive. I can't help the feeling either. There was a post about a guy's bathroom outlet on the same circuit catching fire. Need advice - Outlet caught fire | PriusChat Is the PiP related to the fire? We'll have to wait for the OP's reply.
Congrats... it's a great vehicle once you learn all the tricks to get the best out of it! The PIP only draws about 1 kilowatt (1000 watts or 8.3 amps @ 120 volts), less than some microwave ovens draw so it's not going to overtax a modern 15 or 20 amp circuit. People get in trouble when they have other large draw appliances on the same circuit as the PIP and they both run at the same timer. Using the PIP's built-in time helps you avoid this situation unless someone in your house likes to run the washer/dryer at 4am too.
After my experience with the charging business, I am seriously considering putting an outlet outside the garage because the cable is not long enough to reach to the car if it is in the driveway where it most likely will be parked due to my other that is kept in the garage. I am having a buyer's remorse on the Warranty front too but it is close to what I paid earlier. The original quote was about 2800 for that. Plus it gets rolled into the 5 year 0% financing. But still i am not too happy with it either. I had a 06 prius before.
If you're going to charge outside, make sure you get a lock for the EVSE. There's a small hole in the handle that a luggage lock fits into. The EVSE is north of $1000 to replace. Securing the charging cable | Page 3 | PriusChat
Just another idea... if you are going to install a new outlet you can put the outlet just inside the garage door. Then you can close the door on top of the cable, with the brick part inside which will keep it from getting stolen. And you'll want to put a small price of ~1/2" plywood next to it when you close the door to prevent the cable from getting crushed. Mike
I actually believe you have a window where you can cancel the extended warranty and get all your money back. Some one know the law on this? In fact I think you may even be able to cancel and get a prorated portion back anytime. Worth checking out.
I think on the back of the extended warranty contract, it says 60 days. There's a number on the back to call. When I called, the lady tried to talk me out of it. She said the extended warranty covered EVERYTHING, including "wear items", which I'm pretty sure they don't cover. Anyhow, dont let them talk you into keeping it. Something else to keep in mind is if you financed the car, they dont refund YOU the money, it goes towards the loan principal.
which is fine. as i have found out through experience, if you "overpay" the monthly payment, your successive monthly payments get reduced automatically. basically, the loan automatically "refinances" itself with every payment. kind of neat.
