Y'all know why I slipped tobacco on that list right? The denial then mirrors the denial now, right up to including some of the same players. non-subtle me.

If environmental groups use fear to stimulate you to donate, you still don't have to do it. Same with economic or political affinity groups. A bit of objective reasoning will help us to sail right past such rough waters. So, I still do not see the record-setting harm accompanying 20 feet/100 years goofiness. Not compared to real environmental harms that have previously been lied about. The greatest lie ever told is a high bar. Here we have, not much of a hurdler.

New research on the (fast) rate of temperature rise over the West Antarctic ice sheet (WAIS). You'll find it. So, maybe we'll hear 20 feet/100 years again. but use your noggin and stand your ground. The entire WAIS is about 20 feet sea level equivalent. But it won't all melt in 100 years. No way baby. It's still very cold down there.

Where do much smaller sea level rises pose risks, what can be done about those, and what would it cost? I think these are much more sensible questions. perhaps this is the wrong place to discuss them.

But you see, this 20 feet goofiness is only not harmful, because like the zombie Apocalypse its only in movies. ITs not real, and most serious people do not believe in it. Unfortunately if scientists are spending a lot of time warning about the zombie Apocalypse then their credibility goes down. Similarly if people are purporting to tell us the inconvient truth about ghg, and use polar bears playing, or 6 meter sea level rise quickly, it gets you an air of disbelief. Its the same disbelief that you feel when a tobacco executive says smoking isn't harmful.

No this is mojo's thread, and I disagree with him on most things, including this being one of the bigger lies, but we should not discount harm done by this type of thing. There were lots of panicked people in India when it was reported that the glaciers were all going to melt quickly. We should try to avoid this politicization of science, even if it is by environmental groups, just after your cash.

    agree there

When I saw Lonnie Thompson 'say it' on TV, I yelled that the TV. It is wrong and he is way too smart to say it.'

As BOSS, I would make it stop. Along with all such related goofiness. I argue against both sides (including 'warming has stopped') with equal fervor. If my fervor is not quite equal, then that is a personal shortcoming and perhaps can be improved.
