Not sure how you derived a personal attack. None was intended. Prop 13 is a Wonderful law and we need more like that. California is a great state and I enjoy living and working here. However our gov has raising taxes into an art form. They will just find a way. Melo rous, vote on school bonds, internet taxes, phone taxes, gas tax, income tax, sales tax increases it just never stops. I have never in my life heard a gov agency say heck we did not need all that money so we will refund some. That is rare. They just find ways to spend and give themselves great benefits. Greed is a human nature.

If your state DOES NOT give a sales tax incentive for buying a more expensive green car, then you are already getting penalized for buying a cleaner car. In that case, adding more EV road taxes seems unfair depending on your sales/property tax hit. If your state DOES provide tax incentives to hold you even on state tax, then asking for extra amount for road use seems fair.

In Virginia, we have ~5% sales tax + annual property taxes for car ownership. The property tax is local and I am trying to find a willing local politician to craft a more fair green car tax policy in my locality. Some Prius owners live in Arlington county VA which does credit green cars to reduce the higher tax bite.

    2 wrongs don't make a right.

Ok your right moving to France will not decrease my tax liability. However I wonder if the services are much better. In France I hear Doctors make house calls and decent pensions exist for all workers and not the lucky privileged.

Dippity Do makes a ton of money, he is no different than you or I, he wants lower taxes.

The Tax on EV in my mind is a little premature and it is just another obstacle in the road to progress. My prediction is in 20 years EV will be the majority of car registrations in much of America and perhaps these vicious tax collectors know that and let's face it they want there share just as Capone wanted his.

Calling someone a hack isn't exactly a compliment, no? If that's not a personal attack…hm…please tell me what I should call it.
Doctors in France do make house calls. That's because they get paid by the government to do that. You think they do it cheaply? Of course not. There's no such thing as a free lunch. Unless, of course, you live your working life in the US, make tons of money, and then move to Europe to take advantage of their "socialism". Greed is human nature indeed!

Sounds like your on the attack now. I don't know you from atom but if you throw a few punches you're sure to get a few coming back. :)

I wish you the best but it is always the guy on the dole getting the bennies who is first to fight for it's preservation and the guy who's paying for it wishes some one else can pay for it. Looking for the best opportunity is not greed just common sense.

hey, no skirting the issue. i didn't call you names, you did, end of story. that's kind of the point – we can throw punches all we want, but it's gotta stay civil.
it might be always the guy doing this or that, but i'm not in a union, I'm not really even working a full-time job at the moment (and no, i'm not getting unemployment checks), and given that I'm a software engineer, I'll probably never be in a union in my life. doesn't prevent me from being able to empathize with other people who are not as lucky as me.

Yep you defended the taxes and unions and I called you a Hack. Like I said you take a position expect a few coming your way. Funny your so sensitive to that. I'm a VP of a software company and a former managing Director of a Fortune 500 software company. As far as predicting the future on being Union or not let's leave that to someone else. It seems you don't mind paying more taxes and that's your prerogative but I rather keep more of my own money and if we can create jobs than perhaps taxes can be lowered for all. If you do not believe gov pensions are not running amok than you have your head in the sand. Like I said when my friend a teacher retires in his 50's with 80% pay and Cadillac medical insurance and schools want to raise taxes I'm hard pressed to keep paying. For most social security pays about 30% of retirement the rest comes from savings and investments. Just my opinion and everyone has a few including you.

Lets all take a deep breath and relax. Now,doesn't that feel better. You can feel comfortable
in the knowledge that your hard earned tax money that you gave the government is being
spent wisely and on your behalf.

    Now, back to reality......

Hardly uncivil. A Hack is a person who promotes a political party or political message for private gain. Middle English in the standard dictionary for centuries. It can also mean a cab driver, older horse, person who tends to livestock, the unskilled and a computer programmer.

Perhaps everyone who responded to the tax statement is in some sense of the word a Hack in the political sense. Oops did I put my foot in my mouth again? Cheer up young man your driving a Prius and that is what we both can agree on. :)

The medical benefits for retired teachers in California terminates when they turn 65. The medical benefits for their family terminates at the teacher's retirement. My wife is a retired public school teacher, so I am have had to become more familiar with how this works than I ever wanted to.

Exactly and you're unhappy with that. The private sector you get nothing and if you complain they find another reason to push you out. At 65 you pay for Medicare.

In California 3 out of 5 children in school is on the school lunch program for lower income. Fitzgerald once said the rich make money and the poor make babies. Heck no one should be poor in these numbers. Why can't this country allow job creation that reduces these poor situations. Just today I heard my friend 51 years old Citicorp employee got a lay off notice last Christmas . He is a dB programmer. Sole bread winer, mortgage, daughter in college, son a Senior in HS attending college next year. His job was being outsourced in India for near nothing. He got a years pay. He goes on interviews and is seen as older. He got an offer after 6 months at 60% of his former pay no matching 401K and his medical only pays for himself and his boss is foreign born and USA educated. He accepts his situation but knows something is not right. He just pays the bills and is restructuring his finances and life. He continues to look. This country was once the envy of the world. It is now a Ponzi scheme. I told him to buy a Prius and he can save money on gas. He smiled. I like those cars. They are popular. You can see it in his eyes and feel it in his voice. He lost his drive, his ambition, his zest for opportunity.

    Geez this is getting depressing....

I didn't say that I was unhappy. I was just responding to the comment about the "Cadillac" coverage for retired teachers. Teachers in California pay into Medicare but not Social Security.

BTW, I am still in the private sector and I know what I get (and don't get) with my 401K, various Medicare "Parts", and so on.
