Issues with Interior Dome Lights Turning On By Themselves!

    Hi All,

    Been noticing a strange phenomenon in my Prius C lately.

    The interior dome lights in my car are getting switched on mysteriously. I've noticed this several times. They are only set to turn on when the door opens (middle position).

    However, a few times, I would lock the car, the lights would turn off inside and if I returned to the car later on (i.e. in the morning after locking the car at night), I would see the lights are on inside the car. And no, I didn't press the unlock key or grab the door handle - I know that turns the car lights on that way...

    What's going on? Has this happened to anyone else?

    I guess I'm going to need to bring this in for warranty.

    It's probably part of the Smart key system. In my Rav4, it would turn on the lights as I approached the car.

    It does the same thing in my Gen II! Nice feature to have!

    Lol... maybe I'll test it again without the key in my pocket. I just dont' want my battery draining or something.

    It's part of the smart key system. Don't worry, the dome lights will shut off again when you go away

    Yep, as above, the SKS will turn the light on when you approach, if the switch is on the door setting. You can ask a dealer to turn this function off if you wish. The delay before the lights fade to off can also be customised - the default is 15 seconds, but 7.5 seconds or 30 seconds are also options the dealer can switch to. That setting would apply to all situations where the lights fade to off on delay.
