I've been asked how I achieved this type of affect from a picture of a stationary car. Here is a two part tutorial using photoshop. There are various other ways that this can be achieved possibly more affectively but this is a reasonably understandable method. Part 1 Part 2
Wow! Thanks so much Will... Very well done, and very detailed. I'm going to give it a go when I get some free time- no football this weekend so maybe Sat or Sunday. Obviously you're a professional who's very well versed in Photoshop. Thanks for sharing- I think I can even follow your walk through. Love some of photos you show at the end- really nice work. Rob.. I'm already thinking of a photo I took of my in-laws boat while we were traveling side by side last summer at about 30kts. The camera was on auto exposure and it set the shutter at >1000th of a second which prevented any background blur. Hopefully I can find that photo and using your technique blur the background like you did for the Prius.
Hey no problem. If you have any questions just let me know and I'll attempt to answer them lol Many thanks for the feedback
I do use camera rigs but to be honest they tend to lead to a time consuming and expensive result in which you won't get a full car shot without the tether being in view. To achieve a full car in shot you would generally either need to be in another vehicle tracking the target vehicle or stand a little way back with a high magnification lens to allow you to keep the car in shot whilst tracking using a slowish shutter speed, a common practice amongst F1 photographers. The technique I show in the video is simply in response to being asked how I achieved it. Most people do not have access to camera rigs or 600mm lenses and hence it allows enthusiastic amateurs to achieve good results. It's just a bit of fun.
