I know a lot of us put our iPhones in the area that's created by opening the cover of the foremost cup holder and then resting the phone against the open cover and the cup holder "lip" (for lack of a better word. Well anyway I was a bit concerned that the taller iPhone 5 would no long fit in this area but I can report that indeed it does. And it also paired successfully with the Prius Bluetooth. So the iPhone 5 gets the thumbs-up for the Prius.
Entune doesn't appear to be working, however. It's crashed twice on my iPhone 5 today (once before and once after plugging it in). It wasn't doing that on iOS 6 beta (I'm a developer). Anyone else having Entune crash issues?
I don't have entune on my 2011, but I can confirm that the iPhone 5 cannot be controlled through the Aux audio on the 2011 Prius software. Any chance of a firmware upgrade to fix this? This is devastating since I almost always listen to music from my iPhone in the car
Are you using the 3.5 mm aux audio jack? If so, firmware updates won't do any good. That plug standard has been in use WAY before iPods, iPhones and even CD players. It has no provisions for controlling devices. It's just analog audio.
Yes, I'm getting album art showing up on the nav screen using my iPhone 5. Contact photos are not showing up for incoming/outgoing calls. They did not on my old HTC EVO either so I was hoping they may now but oh well...
I gave my iPhone 3GS a swirly in the restroom earlier today. I love my 3GS. I'll probably breakdown and buy the iPhone 5 now as I'm not sure my 3GS is salvageable. I was going to wait for the iPhone 6 to come out as there was nothing wrong with my 3GS and was still going strong until it met with the porcelain demon! I'm going try the rice trick tonight when I get home and see if that sucks the moisture out of the phone. Anyone have any issues with the iPhone 5 after September 2012 to report that I should be aware of?
the thing i hated the most about my iphone5 and my 2012 prius is that 80% of the time whenever a call came thru and i answered it via the steering wheel or dash "accept" button, the bluetooth connection dropped and radio would kick back in. I would have to touch "hands-free" option on the car's screen twice in order to send the call back to the car. It does not happen with my iphone4s
iPhone 5 and entune......SUCK! Hands free calling works fine on my iPhone 5, but it don't work on my wife's phone. Well it does, but you have to hit handset and then handsfree. Stupid!!! And then the music...what the hell? It don't show my album artwork. It shoes some random pictures of "Hip-Hop and R&B" or some stupid picture of "Pop". Just stupid!! And to use the Internet I have to plug it in with my apple cord. The reading text feature is dead. Can't check my emails. I understand that doing all this is highly frowned upon, but I payed big money to acces this stuff, now can't use it. Pandora..dead. Email..dead. I don't know if I'm mad at my iPhone or entune.
My iPhone 5 and 2010 Prius III are best buds. They work well together and rarely have issues. Bluetooth calls almost always work (as you know, Bluetooth will occasionally drop a signal or have trouble pairing, no matter the devices being used, but I'd say 95% of the time it works as expected). My Prius doesn't have Etune or audio-streaming, but strangely, the voice in Google Maps will use the Bluetooth connection most of the time. I don't have any other apps that do that. A definite bonus.
So my iPhone 5 came in yesterday. This morning when I went out to the car I paired the bluetooth and also turned on the Entune App before plugging the cable into the phone. Entune worked flawlessly and worked better with the 5 than the 3GS. I used it for traffic, weather, and did a Bing search. Only thing I still have a slight gripe about is how it wants to play music from my iPod immediately. I also felt dirty using Bing connected through an iPhone. LOL
That's good news on the i5 in case I want or need to upgrade from my i4. Pleasantly surprised to find the new Google Maps for iPhone defaults to giving me turn by turn audio when I'm driving. Nice alternative to Toyota nav which is quirky and out of date.
- This is an Apple problem. Seems like it should be fixed in 6.1 based on my use with the beta. - Album art cannot be transferred over Bluetooth. I'm assuming that's what your using here. In this case, if the data isn't in the system's Gracenotes (I think this is what they use) database, it shows those generic icons. -Another Apple problem. Apple doesn't allow this. Only incoming messages. You can't reply to an SMS either (unless you use Siri).
No incoming nor just viewing. I hope they fix it. Would be nice to have data transferred through Bluetooth like android phones.
Message Access Profile. It's the Bluetooth protocol that allows for messages to be viewed on an accessory. You can enable it on iOS 6 by selecting the device in the Bluetooth settings and turning ON the Show Notifications option. It takes a reconnect with the vehicle before it actually is enabled on the phone side though. Once it's enabled, you'll start getting messages. FYI - Apple only sends new messages received after the phone connects to the car, there's no history of messages. They also don't let you reply from the car. Give that a try.
