So, I stop by Ford to have a look at the new Fusion Hybrid's trunk (other night I sat inside w/o having to deal with a salesperson, was dark, trunk wouldn't open anyway) ..... Salesguy gets the key, pops the trunk .... WTH??? That's a trunk? It's narrowed a lot due to, likely the 12V battery, but worst is the traction battery takes up another hefty chunk of trunk floor. I can't imagine what the Fusion Energi trunk will end up looking like. I had some hopes for this Fusion hybrid, some thoughts about getting more interested in it. Not anymore. I would need a real trunk, not that. No wonder people buy the heck out of liftback Prius .... it just flat out works.
This is the 2012 Camry hybrid. I've seen it in person. Lot bigger than FFH trunk. And yes, Paradox, that's the one
not very deep in that camry. I easy stuck a 1x8x48 piece of hardwood in the Fusion, without folding the seats. Cant do it in the Camry, not deep enough, also that battery hump in the camry is useless, at least the Ford is a large flat shelf. Then again, how much are you looking to put in a trunk anyway? Most gangsters use caddies for bodies.
Knowing C-Max Energi (the plug-in model) has tall battery-pack in the center of the cargo area near the wheels, it's very easy to imagine Fusion Energi consuming that entire shelf in back. Leaving on about a foot of depth for storage (grocery bag width) certainly will provide a strong consideration for hatchback plug-ins.
a trunk is a funny thing. for many, it goes relatively unused. but when yo need it, it can be disappointingly small. we gave up the large camry trunk for the hybrid. it's nice to know they improved the second gen and hopefully will continue to do so. a reversal of that in a plug in might be too much to overcome.
