Hoping I can just clip it to the engine battery and make some power for misc items if our power goes out during storm. Thanks in advance for your tips... Paul
Since November 2005, a little bit. The inverter should be bolted to the battery terminals so the battery can provide 'surge' energy. This is needed for motor start-up and some inrush loads. In this image you can see 89.6A being drawn which is way above what any "clip" could handle. In this case, a modified sine-wave inverter. Our other Prius also has a 1.5kW inverter but I am planning to rework the installation to eliminate the Anderson connectors and 120A 12V circuit breaker. These are taking more power than I want leaving just 940W of continuous, 110VAC, sine-wave power. Bob Wilson
