Hi from a noob. My "new to me" 2010 with 90k km, was just diagnosed with a intermediate shaft problem. Looking at the recalls for 04-09 models, I'm thinking how they addressed that problem in my model. Is this a common problem or my bad luck only?
Andy, welcome ot Prius Chat. I just had my '08 recalled for the intermediate steering shaft issue. The dealer checked it out, the shaft was fine. It appears a parts vendor Toyota used, didn't do the required hardness procedure on this shaft, so Toyota issued a recall. I don't think it is your bad luck at all. The Prius is a provened world class leader in the hybrid arena. It is also not a common problem, Toyota is taking the conservative approach. Enjoy your Prius and great gas mileage. Cheers, DBCassidy
I am curious. What type of issue(s) led to you taking the Prius for a checkup that resulted in the mechanic pointing to a intermediate shaft problem? I have a 2010 with relatively high mileage (80k) as well, so I want to be on the lookout for this.
In my case when you turn steering wheel from 10 to 2 and back fairly fast there was a klick klick noise from around the front wheels area. Also driving highway speed steering was off, but I just switched from wrx so not sure if that is related. I would noticed that around 2016 but friend of mine brought that to my attention and suggested to check it with the service. As far as I know it is not covered by the power train warranty. Thanks for the welcome dbcassidy, like the car a lot and I didn't even fill it up yet
Picked up my car today, dealer i bought it from claims bolts were not tighten properly. I love car dealers and mechanics so much right now. Should I go to 3rd service for a full inspection or put my faith in toyota brand and let it go?
No more clicking sounds but I don't trust my dealer anymore. I'm going for a full inspection to the third toyota dealer on tuesday but it fells like a waste of money.
When one dealer said it needs to be replaced for $700 out of the warranty, my original dealer who should fix it and pay for it decided to tighten some bolts call it a day. Looks like one dealer tried to rip me off or second saved himself some money doing nothing. Did I said I don't trust car mechanics?
