It looks like I have a problem with my driver's seat on my Prius. Usually when I break, I can hear a click and the seat (not the whole seat, just the seat base - I think this is what it is called). It looks like something either got loose or something worn out and does not hold the seat base well any more. Have any of you encountered something similar? Thanks,
Do you feel any movement in the seat when braking. If you don't, I would suspect a broken or cracked weld in the framework of the seat. I would definitely have it inspected. Also, I have to ask, "How heavy are you"? I've seen cases where a driver with a large stature has literally bent the seat frame while adjusting his/her body position in the seat. Had to ask. If you feel movement it could be a worn or broken seat track glide or a loose mounting bolt.
Yes, I do feel movement of the seat when breaking. There is a sound and there is a alight movement of the seat. Not the whole thing, just the part you sit on. I am heavy, about 110 kg. Would it mean I have to replace the whole chair? Thanks for your reply
Replace the whole chair? No. It might just be a seat glide, which is replaceable. To be sure you'll have inspect and determine the root cause of the looseness. I would move the seat adjustment to a different position and see if it affects the excessive movement.
I've had that noice from the beginning. Never did anything and it seems to be less now. I am +/- 70kilo 154 lbs
Thanks. Actually, changing the position of the seat reduces the problem. I changed the position of the back slightly (to the more upright position) and the movement is not gone, but it is much less. I will try to have it checked but...since I live in Thailand the service is not always very knowledgeable Will try, though and see what they say.
