You can follow his adventure at Cleanmpg.com. Chicago IL to San Diego, CA Prius PHEV Adventure - CleanMPG Forums Keep an eye on his average speed. This is a cannonball run for Wayne. Not one of his usual hypermiling trips! Teaser
great read, thanks man! i don't know much about the midwest, but this looks like a bucket list imperative. i like the sound of that museum! p.s., my pip has never seen the backside of 69 mph.
Nope. I am starting learn how the PIP is easier to hypermile than the non-PIP. It's more fun to drive even when you don't have a charge. I'm looking forward to Wayne's update today..... Then I have to go spray wasps so the tree swallows can move into their nest boxes on our Preserve.
do you clean out the bluebird houses? i read we're supposed to do that here so they will make a new home each spring.
Yes and no. Yes you are supposed to and no I don't always do it. We have 35 of them spread over 427 acres so I don't usually have time to do it. My main problem are the big paper wasps that make nests in the boxes. The swallows and bluebirds can't us the nests when there are a bunch of wasps in there. Once the nest is cleared and the birds take up residence they can kill the wasps one by one if they enter the nest. It's sad to see the birds sitting on top of the boxes knowing they can't use them. Since we are already off topic, here is a slideshow one of my Scouts put together. These are the boxes I am going to work on today.
Update with lots of pics over at Cleanmpg thread. Wayne got stuck in Vail when they closed I-70 because of the blizzard. He got to play in the snow all the way to Iowa. A check of the weather reports and Google maps would have shown the southern route home was only an hour longer normally with no weather problems. Chicago winter weather expert? . Southern route would be East on I-8 and I-10 to Phoenix, North I-17 to Flagstaff, East I-40 to Tulsa, East I-44 to St. Louis then North I-55 to home wherever that is.
