2012 Prius liftback 3 with solar roof I'm pretty sure this is new behavior the past week or so. Whenever I open the door, whether finishing a drive or entering the car from outside, the car beeps once as if it is trying to get my attention for something. This happens when the car is off (I always press the power button before opening the door) I do not see any warning lights or anything obviously wrong; what is the significance of this beep?
The beep is to warn you that the battery in your FOB is low. You may have inadvertantly had it engaged at some point and ran the battery down. Put that FOB far away from your car and switch to the other FOB and see if the beep stops...
No other FOB in the car; rear hatch is closed. I'll investigate the possibility of the low battery when I get home from work today and report back. That would be annoying if so, as the car is brand new from October!
The car still beeps even with the other FOB (which has been unused sitting on a shelf since the car was taken home from the dealership) The beep is on the inside, and happens within a second of the door being opened.
I'm at a loss. That is the only reason I am aware of that the car will beep at you without displaying any other alerts... I am a very curious person and I find this quite vexing! However unlikely, due to the age of your vehicle, have you checked the 12volt to determine if it may be failing, prematurely?
Everything I'm finding points to the moonroof being open (even slightly). Try opening and closing fully.
It may be the sunroof. I had a 2012 Two and never heard that beep. Now that I have a Three w/sunroof, I've noticed it a couple times.
Okay, indeed it seems it was the sunroof. I opened it and then closed it again, and now the beeping has stopped. The sunroof was definitely closed though, I had even pressed the close button and it didn't close further, and drove through some pretty intense storms today without any leaks. Any idea why the car would think the roof was open when it clearly was not?
Glad you got rid of the beep! As for why it wasn't sensing the sunroof being open...it happens! Electronics doesn't always behave the way we expect them to. The sensor that determines whether the roof is open or not may have malfunctioned, or it may be dirty. If you continue to experience the same problem in the future it's worth a trip to the dealer to try to get it taken care of while you're still under warranty.
What we need now is to get Toyota to convert these beeps to speech, E.g. "Sunroof open", "Door open", "Key in car" etc. it's not new technology, some vehicles already have this .
Like my '87 LeBaron use to say, "You're door is ajar!" I guess they lost the technology from ancient times...
The buying public found the spoken warnings to be annoying beyond belief. If anyone had liked them they would have stayed.
