Right, I was interested in knowing what is the Prius users oil policy in the States. I have my own opinion at this regard, of course. I was not aware that modern lubricant already have boron inside, thank you for pointing out it.

    Again, thank you!
Is there any info about what grade comes with the cars originally delivered (here in Europe is 0W20) in AU?

I've posted before that in Australia the recommended oil is 5W30. I believe this is because of our generally higher average temps. We rarely have below zero temps except in frosty mornings or in the alps for brief periods. I'm a few thousand kms off 160,000 and my car has been exclusively serviced by the local Toyota agent. My car is still running like new.

It might have been one of my posts. However I can vouch that is is the Gen III 2010 Manual

I use 0-30 Amsoil signature synthetic.
It's rated to 35( moles.... I only take it to 25k or so.
Oil tests show excellent on all levels except silicone is high "dusty here".
Oil report recommended I try 30k next.

There are exhaustive threads on PC about this subject with lots of engineers in oil who chime in.

I have never seen anything to indicate what is in the car when delivered, I think it is probably Toyota's 0W20.

I read the Aussie page, the first choice is 0w20 at all temps. It is also the chosen example in all the explanations. I am guessing some of you prefer to make this more complicated than it is.

What you said is a generalization. Oil is not exactly one size fits all like the CAFE influenced manual is trying to tell you. However, I agree that 99% people will be fine with 0w20. I drive mostly city and 0W20 is perfect for that. If I were to drive it at 90+ MPH all the time, I would not use 0W20.

Correct, if you are towing the space shuttle across the Sahara at 100 MPH, disregard my comments. You will fall into that extreme service category.

You are not suppose to tow with the Prius.

An 800lb space shuttle is ok.

Its only lowest number to highest number not an indication of preference. Since Toyota recommends 0W-20 for US conditions, tha's what I would stick with though I might consider 5W-30 for hotter ares where below 0 temps are rarely reached.

    My dealer says 5W-30.
