My salesman told me that it is illegal to have the functionality of sending a text while driving, and that my new Prius cannot send text via voice command. This can't possibly be right, can it. When I have my phone paired to the bluetooth and receive a text, it will say text message from so and so, but i can't have it read to me or respond. Is there a way around this, because it is really annoying. Thanks.
Yes. Put your phone in driving mode. Use the phone's built in software to read back texts and if it is connected via Bluetooth, you will hear it via the car speakers.
There is no "driving mode" setting that I can find, and it works fine in my F150. The phone does all the usual "new text from so and so" but won't read it to me. There has to be an issue with the car, because the feature works fine in my truck.
Have you checked to see if there is a firmware update for your phone. It's under settings - more - about.
I'm on the most recent update, Nokia Lumia 920 btw, still no dice. And that still wouldn't explain while it works in other vehicles but not this one. Also doesn't explain why the salesman would say it can't do it.
The only other thing I can think of is to check the Bluetooth settings on the car... While in it, and on, hit setup then bluetooth. Under the paired list, does your car show the phone as paired for both internet AND music? I believe the music setting is more like a multi-media setting... My Samsung has a built in assistant. It allows you to send texts and emails via voice commands. That also includes playback. Just so you know, I do not believe our cars have text to voice capability, maybe the Prius Four and Five. The Ford has MyTouch which has that built in.
Just as an update, the ar randomly decided to let my phone do voice text through bluetooth over the weekend. Not sure what changed, but I guess I should just be happy lol. Thanks for your advice.
I have an iPhone 5... I can receive texts and they are read out, but how do I send a text the other way? ie "voice to text then send"
what system do you have? Both Display Audio with Navigation 32 and Entune® 11 — includes 6.1-in touch-screen with integrated backup and Premium HDD Navigation 32 with Entune do read out text messages when driving. Depending on phone some may support replying of text. Apple does not allow using to do it over Bluetooth - you are expected to push the button on the phone to activate Siri. Samsung a mix bag, Blackberry does it.
I got the prius 4, with solar including premium sound. Was not even aware you could voice text! I got my iphone5 synced via BT but got no clue how to use this. Lol. Do i need entune app installed first?
with an iphone - you have to go into your iphone and go into your Bluetooth Settings, select the paired car and enable "Notification". Apple has it turn off by default each time you pair a new phone. You don't need Entune to get this feature, Entune just means a way to get Apps going ie Pandora.
