We also have a team here in Eugene that is pretty good. I think of Ashland as the little sister to Eugene and Portlandia as the older brother. Get used to saying "OR-A-GUN". Get new license plates ASAP. I grew up two blocks away from the beach in Santa Cruz. Moved to OR more than 30 years ago. Would never go back! You need to hike the Rogue River trail, or boat it. Just watch out for bears. The coastline is jaw dropping amazing. Eastern Oregon is a unique high desert. I am sure you will miss getting out in the rain, spilling gas on yourself, waiting for slow customers, while your gas is being pumped for you. Hope you can deal with the trauma... Here in Eugene I am getting snow tires, but I really didn't need them the last two winters. Oregon was made for some people. I am one!
Ooops, sorry, The Ducks and Beavers both have a rabid fan base. However, I've been a Blazer fan since I was a little kid. Also I should clarify. It's been over a decade since we've had much of an impact storm really hit "Portland". The winters have been mild. However, what level of automotive winter preparedness you might need kind of depends on where you plan to go. There are places in Oregon that always become difficult or impassable. Also? It has been about a decade since we had a storm of significance hit Portland,- we are probably due. So if I say, "Expect it to be Mild" this will probably be the winter to end all winters. I just think sometimes outsiders or people unfamiliar with Oregon sometimes picture a state of made entirely of wintered forest. That is not the case.
My biggest trepidation in the occasional threat of doing away with Oregons Anti-Self Serve status, is I think it would take a way a percentage of possible jobs for people. Albeit...usually entry level, low paying jobs...but jobs none the less. But if all things were even? I'd just as soon be able to pump my own gas. Because like Al Pacino in Scar Face? Who do I trust? I trust me. Infact, part of my delay in getting a Prius was not wanting to get a Generation 2, and have to worry about all the possible idiosyncrasies of the Gas Bladder, while living in a State that wouldn't allow me to pump my own gasoline. I think the No Self Serve in Oregon is nice for older people, and there are certainly times when I appreciate the convenience of NOT having to pump my own gas, but overall I kind of wish I could pump my own.
