Apple mentioned in the WWDC keynote today that a long list of auto manufacturers have signed up to install iOS as their audio/media software in 2014. Ford and Toyota are conspicuous in their absence, I presume because they have signed on to the MS garbage. So sad. As an aside, if I was on the fence whether to buy Apple stock this would convince me. Tens of millions of cars every year sold to customers who would then be inclined to join the Apple universe.
It's not Siri. That's different. This new car integration just adds another layer to the Siri "Eyes Free" was announced last year. It's not iOS in the car. It's displaying the pushed images on the screen.
Apple unveils iOS for the Car - Autoblog has a video snippet from WWDC about the feature. Not a lot of info in that video though...
I wonder how many will come to N.A. Opel's on there, so it makes me wonder what destination these will be for. NHTSA's distraction rules forbid quite a bit of what Apple does on the screens they push so anyone that adopts it in the US will probably have to listen to them complain...
Yeah, we have no idea but obviously those automakers and Apple have a huge audience outside NA. Now that I think about it more, it is odd we see Chevy and Opel but not some of GM's other brands like Cadillac. Cadillac would seem to be a good candidate. Buick would be good in China, provided there's enough iPhone penetration there. It's also a bit odd that Infiniti's missing but Nissan's there.
Lets see if Apple can deliver. Passport is a flop. If it is success I'm sure Toyota will join the standard. I hardly use Siri just a Mixed bag. More trouble than it is worth. Not that the Toyota voice commands are better.
