Hi everyone! I have a prius C2 and am going to install HERTZ ESK 165 components in the front with an amp. I am planning on keeping the stock headunit (non navigation) and keeping the rear speakers stock running off he head unit. I am debating whether or not I want to put a sub in the trunk? I don't listen to my music outrageously loud or want crazy bass, but I want sound quality. I am thinking of putting a small sub in so I can filter out the low end bass in the front speakers. However, I am also worried about trunk space. If I get a sub, if would be a microsub or something small, probably a 8in. Any opinions?
The first thing I did to my C2 was remove that HORRID factory head unit. The sound quality was just terrible, especially streaming music from my phone to it via bluetooth. Now with my Pioneer x3500bhs I get HD radio, bluetooth, movies etc and the steering wheel controls still work. The next thing I'm going to do is put in component speakers in the front and non component aftermarket speakers in the back, and I'll power both sets with the built in amplifier from my Pioneer, which is much better than the stock HU amp. Lastly I'm going to throw in a small shallowmount 10" JL sub and a mono-channel amp just for that. You should really think about taking those stock rear speakers out. They will push some horrid sound into the back seat area which will spill up front and mix with your components. Just my opinion, Cheers!
I focused on my front speakers, including tweeters using a modest component system. You can put a small sub under the passenger seat. I'm ordering a powered sub from Crutchfield to complete the upgrade. They suggested the Sound Ordnance B-8PT Single 8" Amplified Flatsub. I'm also ordering the control dial with it.
I have the kicker hideaway 8" powered sub and it is the only upgrade to the audio system I have made and it makes a world of difference in Bass sound quality.
It is to tall to fit under the seats but does not take up much room in the hatch area, I will post a pic tomorrow. Pics added.
