Although I have more than 40,000 miles on my 2010 prius, I have never needed to fold the rear seats down. I think I know how to do it, but I have a question. There is a horizontal metal bar to which the cargo compartment cover is attached. How do I remove that bar so that I can get something tall into the hatchback? The salesman did it with no problem, but I (being a mechanical dunce) can't figure out how to do it. Does it take one hand or two hands? Is there something I have to press down on or lift up? I'd appreciate any counsel.
Just pull it straight up. There's a storage spot for it underneath the rear deck. Read all about it in your owner's manual.
Is it possible to have the seats folded down, front and back passenger, and have them flat? I have tried with the front seat all the way forward, head rest off, but it doesn't quite clear the bottom of the back seat. Thanks.
I have tried pulling it straight up and nothing happens. The owner's manual is, at first glance, completely unhelpful about how to remove the thing. Any further advice?
Either end of the cover, just smack upward on either end with your hand and it will pop out, once you get it to move, it comes out really easy.
Yes the bar pops up not back, it also says "top" on it, so when it goes back in it tells you which end is up. Also you need to lower the head rests and fold them forward to bring the seat all the way down.
Actually, you have to raise the headrests all the way up to be able to tilt them forward before putting the seatback down.
I believe the GenII front seats could be folded flat, making for better car camping. The GenIII does not.
