so i recently bought my prius and now i have about 2k+ miles When i first got it, during start up my prius would go to EV mode fairly quickly within seconds to minutes and most. Also while driving if you look at the eco gauge, going below the line will change to EV almost instantly Now when i start the car it takes very long for it to kick into EV sometimes its instant. Also while regular driving on the streets it will sometimes lag going to EV or i have to let go of the gas completely to get into EV. is there something wrong with the prius?
There's probably nothing wrong with the car. The initial warmup time varies by how long the car has been sitting, ambient temperature, and type of driving you initially do upon startup. Turn-off of the ICE when driving often has to be "forced" by dumping the throttle. Remember, the car is basically designed to be run on the ICE with electric assist and limited EV at low speeds (and always when in reverse).
hmm, i live in southern cali which the weather practically perfect for cars. The car maybe sits at most over night because it is a daily driver. I would get varying results whether the car was driven then parked for 5 mins and driven again. I just cant find a pattern to when limited EV turns on now. Even in reverse a lot of times EV isnt on, its the gas that is on.
I've had my Prius for over a year now. It does seem pretty random when EV mode is available. I'm sure someone can reply with the strict guidelines to why gas engine runs or not. Warm up times, ambient temperatures and what not. I don't really care what the engine is doing. Sometimes the engine turns off below the line. Sometimes it doesn't. All I know is, I am getting excellent fuel economy.
There is always a warmup period...some longer than others as noted above. You should see consistent EV changeover after the warmup is complete. It sounds like the car is doing what it is supposed to do.
