I read a lot of post on lost key fobs. Even if the finder wanted to contact them to return the Smart key fob might not be able to. So, I printed the Finder Please call label with my CELL Phone Number on high strength adhesive Brother P-Touch laminate label tape and affixed them to both of my key fobs. It will depend on, if the finder is kind or a jerk, but you do have more than a ZERO chance of getting it back.
I asked my auto insurance company (Amica) about losing an expensive Prius key fob. They said lost keys are covered at replacement cost with no deductible. So it can pay to check your insurance. Also have a Brother phone label on my Prius key fob. Did not use the more durable laminated tape you mentioned but my current label is 8 months old with no edge curl or wear.
Then they'll be more than happy to jack up your rate. Don't make claims unless it's beyond your control.
You might also reduce the "jerk factor" by putting REWARD below the phone number. Considering that most drivers also have house keys, etc. attached to the fob, offereing $50 for the return is a bargain.
I've been with Amica for over 35 years, and can tell you that they were wonderful when I lived in NJ, but in CA they are terrible.
