Hi folks! I just wanted to stop by and say hi. I just bought a 2010 Prius package 5 in silver, fully loaded with all the bells and whistles including the Advanced Tech Package. I bought this car from the Toyota dealer and it is CPO'd till 100k. The car only has 29k miles for an '10 and was a lease return. This is my 2nd Prius as I previously owned an '07 Prius IV (fully loaded also) and my wife just loved it! We sold it after getting a hit-n-run and switched to a Mini Cooper S. The mini was a good car but it was a little too cramped for us and the turbo lag was annoying. I then switched to an Infiniti G37xS sedan that was a great car to drive, but only gave me 15mpg. I'm loving the 51mpg on the new Prius and drove it 10 hours to Canada and back from Cincinnati as soon as I picked it up from the dealership. This trip would have costed me $300 in gas on the G37 but with the Prius it was less than $100 The trip was fun and easy with the LKA and adaptive cruise control. Here is a list of things I need to do immediately to the car: 1 - Thoroughly read the manual 2 - Turn off the annoying reverse beep 3 - Turn off seat belt beep 4 - Hack navi to work when I am driving 5 - Turn off headlights immediately when the car is turned off 6 - Get rubber floor mats 7 - Do a clay bar, compound treatment and wax the car completly 8 - Tint the windows 20% all around 9 - Change the rear license plate bulbs to leds Now I know that on the 2nd gen Prius I could do hack 2-4 by myself but from reading around the forum I believe that on the 3rd Gen Prius it has to be done by the dealer eh? Please feel free to suggest any other mod that's cost effective and easy to do. My brother and 2 sisters also own a Prius and this being my second Prius I can see why there is so much love for this car... Cheers!
Yes, on the Gen III reverse beep and seatbelt warning must be turned off by the dealer unless you have access to a scangauge or equivalent.
I stopped at the dealer during lunch to ask about removing the reverse and seat belt warning beeps and they said it will take them half hour and will charge $45.00... damn
Find a different dealer who'll do it free of charge, but keep in mind that many dealers will refuse to turn off the seatbelt warning for liability reasons so unless you're lucky it might be either reverse beep alone free of charge alone or $45 for both or you shell out the $$$ for a scangauge. You'll have the best luck if you locate a joint Lexus/Toyota dealership as Lexus has a policy to do a one time personalized setting free of charge and usually extends that to Toyotas.
Congrats on your new purchase.... 2- Suggest you drive awhile before you disable the reverse warning "beep"; I wanted to do this but after a month I was glad I left it alone... 5- I set our "v" to do this; you most probably can do the same...
no other car i have ever owned has the reverse beep, so i wonder why people get worried about turning it off. the car is always in parked and when i change gears to D or R i am pretty careful about what direction it is going to go in
It's just Toyota's way of covering their nice person but many people obviously have no sense of direction.
