Toyota unveiled the insane, Yaris-based Hybrid R Concept at the Frankfurt motor show to much fanfare. The crazy little 414 horsepower AWD hatchback with a supercapacitor hybrid drivetrain out of the TS030 Hybrid Le Mans prototype was insane, but just feasible enough to generate some mouth-foam. It looks HOT TOO! More to this story and pictures at the link.. at complex.com More on the Yaris Hybrid at this link.
Are there any current production cars that use supercapacitors? Are there any race-car classes that something like this would fit into?
um...is there something I'm missing here? Sure the Yaris Hybrid R concept is good news, but the pic and link shows the FT-HS concept car from 2007. Its definitely not the new Yaris concept.
Here's some videos of the R. Booth information | 65th Frankfurt Motor Show | TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION GLOBAL WEBSITE
Mazda's i-ELOOP regenerative braking system uses one. It's available as part of a package on the new Mazda6. Along with the active grill shutters in the package, the i-ELOOP increases all the EPA numbers by 2mpg.
The article is probing if the Yaris Hybrid R just shown at the auto show in Frankfurt, is not the same design as that currently in designed referred to as the GT-86. The picture is the the GT-86. From the first link... New renderings of the 2015 Supra which surfaced a few weeks back look just like the GT-86/FR-S. 2015 Toyota Supra Concept Rendering Emerges to Stir Rumors… Again Hopefully this little Hybrid gem will show up for the 2015 car season with the new Supra design.
It definitely is a yaris, the press liked it, one article explained that the yaris sells well in europe for a toyota. The hybrid - R is never going to make it to production, but maybe some of the parts will make it into a sports car toyota.
I don't think you're missing anything....... I would like to know the same thing. It seems the Yaris R system would fit into the FR-S/GT86, being as they are smaller cars. Anything called a "Supra" would -heaven help us- NOT have anything based an a Yaris in it! Supra should def be based on same drivetrain concept, but hopefully looks are unchanged from FT-HS. Please, Toyota DO NOT change the FT-HS looks. Just bring it as is and call it the new Supra. There is nothing I have seen that is like this car...... the sunroof can slide down the roof pillars, into the trunk, making the car a "U-top" functionally similar to a T-top......it's insane
Here is a better pic of what I was talking about re: sunroof Guess it's known as 'targa top'........but never seen a car with one like it
Wow over 400 hp, this would be great to have fun in, I wonder how it would compair to the tesla roadster?? This may be a car I could afford after the kids move out.
Its built on a yaris platform, a tesla is built on a lotus platform. It will handle like crap compared to a tesla. It also will not go into production.
IMHO that would have been a better choice if they were going to actually build a production car. Since it is a show car only, and toyota wanted people in europe to think the yaris was cool, with no intent to ever produce the car for customers, it seems to make sense. Its just a pr build, no retail sales.
Yea I just went to the link and it sounds to me like it is just a not well thought out statement. I have a 12 camry hybrid and it has 200 hp. it drives awsome. They should build it on a performance frame/suspension Toyota seems to have made some wise choices in their production of hybrids. I think toyota will offer more hybrid cars in the near future. How about a hybrid tacoma? with somthing like 40 city/35 hwy average 38 mpg. I think this would sell like crazy.
