Dealer says Prius ran out of gas - it didn't. Why?

    What is the state of maintenance?

    You are way over due for:

    Trans fluid change
    Engine Coolant change
    Inverter Coolant change
    Sparkplug replacement
    PVC replacement
    Throttle body clean
    Engine air cleaner replacement
    VVT oil filter cleaning/inspection
    AC Evap coil cleaning & cabin filter change
    Rear brake cleaning/inspection
    Water pump belt replacement

    And staring down the barrel at struts and cvt joints.

    We do the major milestones as reccommended in the manual and as we are able to get over to the dealer to do them. Honestly I don't know what they do when... I did just change my cabin air filter though. I'm sure there's a big service due at 150,000 which we just crossed so I'll be doing whatever is reccommended at that milestone soon

    Also as weird as it seems, after the dealer reset the codes last week the car has been driving fine with no issues! It is so strange.

    Big service was due at 100K. Most of my list would have been performed and you'd remember it as it would have been expensive at the dealer.

    Go on toyota.com/owners and join and register your vin. There is the dealer record of all work performed on the car in the Toyota dealer network including all recalls and TSB's and previous owners if any. You can enter all your diy stuff there too.

    Happened to my 2005 Prius at around 125k back in 2010, and was the reason I sold it. I was doing my normal commute and within 5 minutes it went from 3 bars to zero and then I pulled over. Got towed and dealer daid the same thing. Could not trust it so I sold it and after a few years I am back with a 2012 plugin. The dealer said do not drive it below 25%. And they did push new software that seemed to lower the bars faster so 3 bars would be 4+ gallons left. I was not happy with this Toyota rigging!

    My opinion was that the fuel gauge was stuck and/or the flexible tank was the cause. Interesting how they stopped using the flexible tank. In theory, the flexible tank is superior to the rigid tank used now -- reduces condensation and excessive pressure without venting.

    Anyway, I complained to Toyota and they didn't do Jack Shi1!.

    But, as of now the Toyota's are still the best hybrids on the road. Are they perfect, hell no...
