Congratulations to Ms. Davuluri Comments? US wakes up to a Miss America of Indian descent - Yahoo News
There's been a lot of fanfare about this, even in the Australian press. Everyone's talking about her striking a blow for equality. The woman with the two small tattoos was reported on widely as well, talking about "empowerment" and stuff. Now, don't get me wrong - I'm all for prettiness. But a competition to see which skinny girl looks prettiest standing on a stage in a bikini has never struck me as an act of empowerment or a blow for equality.
Post show... I will say she is smoking... but y'all know I'm an nice person man... Ummm... OK OK... some have called me an nice person... and less than a man... but still... this is a woman I think any man could fall in love with. I'm just saying she is beautiful. She is not a fool. She is continuing her education to become a healer. And she didn't call her haters names. Again... I saw that booty post show... and if the contest stays to prior rules, it is basically a booty contest... she wins.
On the whole empowerment and equality thing, it seems that America might be doing rather better than India. Several reports have suggested that while Davuluri had no problem winning Miss America, she might well have been considered too dark to win Miss India. Would Miss America’s Skin Be Too Dark for Miss India? - The Cut Miss America Nina Davuluri: Too 'Indian' to ever be Miss India | Firstpost Which is kind of depressing.
That's because all (male) press reporters absolutely cannot report what they are really thinking, so something at the other end of the spectrum must be reported.
