I don't know what the driver of the Prius in front of me was thinking. There was some roadwork happening, so everybody got shifted over a lane. The lane to my far left was for traffic in the opposite direction. The middle lane was for traffic in my direction. The right lane and the street parking lane was blocked off for the road work for only about 20 yards. Everybody was being cordial and careful while driving through this area. Once the Prius driver in front of me went past the roadwork, she pulled to the right as if to park her car, then she pulled a U-turn right in front of me. If I wasn't driving so slow due to the roadwork, she would have hit the right side of my car. I still hit my brakes pretty hard. Instead, she went perpendicular to the front of my car, about 5 feet ahead. Actually, I was OK with the events thus far, though she pulled a bone-head move but nothing was hurt, especially my Prius (yeah, I'm being a little selfish here). But the part that bothers me is that she never acknowledged that she pulled a bone-head move. And if she didn't think she pulled a bone-head move, that might be worse. Mike
My wife once dropped me off at the side of the road and did something similar in front of a passing car (long time ago). She probably didn't even see one while I stood petrified and watched. The driver of the other car didn't see it coming and he didn't have a chance to react. Fortunately, there was no collision as she did it quickly. When I later asked her about it, she denied the whole thing. Women!
This driver looked at me, so I will assume she saw me. I got that look of, "what are you doing there?" as I nearly T-bone her. My only thing is that if she would have given me a little waive, acknowledging her bad move, I wouldn't worry about it at all. I do dumb things, too. But I got nothing. Oh well, that's life in Los Angeles. Mike
