I got this to get more details on what the car's doing such as RPM, coolant temps etc.. Now to configure it.
Looks good. I was surprised that for a 'technology' car, the Prius provides such little information. I was guessing that was due to Toyota thinking that people wouldn't know how to understand what was happening.
Seriously.. lots of things are happening automatically which is fine.. but I'm used to at least knowing. RPM is helpful so I don't have to guess if I throttled back enough to get the ICE off. Temp gauge is nice to see if car is warmed up. What's awesome about these types of gauges is super easy install and customize-able. On top of that, it can do basic OBDII scanner functions. Not bad for $50.
After a week with the Ultra Gauge, I'm happy to report that it's handy to have the additional details. On my screen 1 is setup engine temp, UG temp, voltage, rpm and instant mpg. Though the MFD gives you mpg, I find number more accurate than a gauging the bar. Now to see if anyone posted details on engine temp(fully warmed up). I'm just curious what considered fully warmed up as in the mornings, it takes a while to get to 180+F.
Do you have the ability to monitor the loop state? Usually when a ECU goes into closed loop, it is then considered to be 'warmed up' and running on maximum sensor inputs.
Yep, see the loop in the upper right corner in my photo? Thinking back, that photo was taken after my short commute.. only 168F... hmmm..
No. I haven't warmed my cars up for a while now. The focus is on engine temp and efficiency. I noticed that MPG seems to get better after car warms up. That was a hunch based on ICE having to stay on and other stuff.. and I noticed the instant MPG up higher as the car warmed up. Before I never knew when as I can't see eng. temp. Now, "I can see." I'm still nodding my head about HID policeman's comments or stand..
