Day 7 of taking ownership, I filled up for the first time at 501 miles. Computer said 65 mpg avg. Put in 7.79 gals. so the math works out to 64.3 mpg. The first tank may not be too telling. I was hoping to get more since we plug in every day at home. My wife was only able to plug in one or two days at work. (OH, because i had the car! ;o). I was hoping we would get better, but her commute takes her up and down hills (Vasco Rd), so that probably lowers mpg's. I took some time to read some of the manual and had a few questions it did not answer, that someone may know. 1) what is the current output in amps from the USB port for phone charging? I have a cigarette lighter plug with one 0.1 amp (for iPhone) and one 0.2 amp USB slot for my wife's LG phablet. Just curious if the console USB puts out 0.1 amp, or if it is less. 2) How accurate is the car's 'Time to Charge' the EV battery estimate. 3) Since the charge cable is not an actual charger (right?), does it only draw a few miliamps to power the amber light when plugged in (but not to car)? 4) I'm not quite clear on how you'd use the two EV Driving Ratios. What are examples of what you use them for? 5) Trip A & Trip B: Since they both were starting from mile zero, I reset Trip A and wil justlet trip B run as an historical usage over the life of the car (or until I accidentally reset it ). Or is there a built in record of mpg from day one of cars life? This is too fun!
congrats! i think your mileage may improve, but 65 is pretty darn good, and that depends on your driving style, traffic and topography, etc. it doesn't matter how much you plug in because you are figuring a straight gas only mpg. time to charge is not that accurate from my experience, especially near the end. figure 3 hours from empty and some have seen quicker. there is no built in history available. i use trip a for each tank and trip b for each trip. i use ratio 1 for lifetime and ratio 2 for each tank. it's really up to you, but you really need three of each to capture everything.
If you record every tank you automatically have a lifetime record so there is really no need to keep it on the tripometers.
I'm confused. You are saying if we did not plug in at all we would still get 65 MPG??? I thought if I am taking the total miles driven, which is of course both ICE and EV combined divided by the # of gallons of gas I have put in/used, that would give me how many miles I drove with that many gallons of gas + of course the kWh's of electricity that I added during the period of those miles. So if someone just does short trips and plugs before depleting their 13.3 EV miles. there miles per gallon of gas would be extremely high. Like one guy reported almost getting 1,000 miles on one tank. So to my 65 mpg gas cost $28.20 for 501 miles, I'd need to add my electricity expense (≈0.15¢ x kWh's) used to charge to get my total cost for those 501 miles.
Is the spread sheet open to anyone? When I click on the link on ukr2's (Ken's) PIP & MPG Spreadsheet sticky, I see only one page titled "PIP - Order- VIN- 20130127" going to line 39 with only one entry from ukr2, blift. and drash and 13 entries from Gizmos. It looks Excel like, but I assume it must be Google docs, which I am not familiar with . I just saw lower in the 1st post on this thread, a quote box from Sam with two links. One to enter and one to view. Both links yield: Sorry, the file you have requested does not exist. I was logged into Google from my Mac OS X 10.6.8
sorry, you're right. i was thinking hv miles. you need to use your ratio screen to get hv miles and divide by total gallons used. 65 is pretty low if you plugged in much.
The lingo is still new to me. Are HV miles all miles not run on battery power (EV mode)? But even in EV mode, I thought I read that sometimes the ICE can kick in. I guess when ICE kicks in, the computer just logs that distance as HV miles, correct?
